HI, get a book on Tarot reading, they are just as good, if not better than a person giving such readings...at least that is what I found to be the case after comparing readings both from people and media for myself...

Sure, what cards came up in your reading?

Personally,

I only use the Major Arcana….. That's the first 21 cards - 1 through 21 As the further you get from the core numbers the further you get from the meanings. I don't use the negation card at all and then, there is the lay out.

i tend to use the basic star of david layout for most readings, with a question in mind whilst shuffling the pack and i lay in a round as above and so below with a governing central card in the middle of the star making it a seven card spread but even this changes, depending on what is needed.for e.g.. a three card layout for past present and future or .. well, there are many ways to lay the reading out.

So the lay out too, will influence the interpretations also.

Which lay out did you use?

Basically,

The Tarot is a divination tool and is open to the seers reading and level of skill in understanding what is being revealed but the Tarot in particular has a certain method to its madness and there are basic meanings to each of the cards.

Firstly,

Its about the numbers and the meaning of the numbers. So you could start there, where i started which is the study of numbers.

Eg. the juggler/ magician - Number One Card, is about starting as one would expect from the number one, potential, portent, inspirations, and projection but this really does depend where it appears in the layout and the level of question and many things really . As to think that is all it is about is stunted understanding, to say the least.

So studying numbers, like for e.g., Where you see the number three turn up and so on. All this will assist you in understanding what the cards are telling you. Where they crop up as in the patterns and ways certain numbers occur and so on. This is a study in itself but this will give you greater understanding than, reading from a book on Tarot which can tell you things, yes but may not be true or give the reason why something is that way.

Then you can go further into this by the colours and their meanings, the patterns, correlations between the chosen cards, the odds and evens.

For eg., The juggler card (1) in relation to the hierophant card (5) for example, will read differently to the juggler (1) to the nymph of ability/ World card (21).

The names given to the cards also can change depending on which pack you are using.

The images, very much so too change on the cards… But the images can get so far off the mark from the major Arcana meanings with a lot of so called tarot pack's ending up as being no more than personal flight of fancy for the artist and just decorative trivial matter really, having little to do with the Major Arcana meanings, getting lost in a load of fluff and stuff of nonsense.

i go for the core 21 Major cards to avoid all this and have studied over many, many years the origins of the images and the names of the cards

When it really comes down to it though,

Anything can be used by the seer.

Really,

Tarot is a divination tools and such as the Tarot, are just pointers and added assistance for the seer to focus and assist in clarity of an answer to a question, guidance, that is all.

Only a way into what the seer knows even without the cards.
