MysteryMike Posted October 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2012 Are you guys a fan of these movies? If so this is a thread to talk about them here. You can talk about whatever you want like which is your favourite or what you think of them. Examples of Natural Horror Movies/Creature Features includes animals or cryptid animals killing people like the movie Jaws (1975) and even ones like giant Monsters destroying cities such as Godzilla. For me I enjoy watching them. I don't know what but I guess I just like seeing the whole nature getting revenge on people. Let's discuss.

buckskin scout Posted October 26, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 26, 2012 John Sayles scripted both Piranha (1978) and Alligator (1980). Two great creature feature/nature runs amock B-movies. Piranha is a spoof of Jaws. Do not watch the remake or your head will explode at the sheer stupidity. Alligator takes the gator in the sewer urban legend and runs with it. If you want to watch a movie that is so bad its good, check out Night Of The Lepus. Yes, man-eating rabbits the size of Mac trucks! They may have clips on yt to check out. Simbi Laveau Posted November 13, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) I loved night of the lepus ,and Them,as a kid. Godzilla,Gamera,Frogs,The Birds ,Willard,Ben,Orca,Jaws . Attack of the giant crabs is an all time fave Corman movie . And then there's Black Sheep. That's a bit different,as they are technically zombie flesh eating sheep ,but its very cool . Also ,Brotherhood of the Wolf and Wolfen. Edited November 13, 2012 by Simbi Laveau

buckskin scout Posted November 15, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 15, 2012 (edited) A final list of movies, the great majority being the 1950s drive-in creature features. Oniomancer Posted November 16, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 16, 2012 (edited) A few you forgot: The Beast The Beast of Hollow Mountain The Beast With a Million Eyes The Deadly Bees Deep Blue Sea Deepstar Six Dinosaurus Earth Vs. the Spider Mosquito The Neptune Factor/The Neptune Disaster Reptilicus Tarantulas: the Deadly cargo Tentacles Ticks Valley of the Gwangi You could probably go into quite few other dinosaur movies of The Lost World variety. I stuck with the ones I remembered that involved rampaging. And that's all without getting into the Syfy "originals." Edit to add: Monstroid, one of the stupidest giant monster movies I've ever seen. Got it confused with Reptilicus for moment. Edited November 16, 2012 by Oniomancer
EllJay Posted November 16, 2012 #13 Share Posted November 16, 2012 Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead, Part 3 I dare you to say that whole title in one breath. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475343/
Oniomancer Posted November 16, 2012 #14 Share Posted November 16, 2012 A few more: The Beginning Of The End The Cosmic Monsters Eight Legged Freaks Monster From Green Hell Monster from the Ocean Floor ( I never even heard of that one before. I found it last night by accident. I was reluctant to list it before because it involves a giant amoeba but I guess that's an animal.) Where Have All The People Gone? (Used to get that one mixed up with Day Of The Animals. They're remarkably similar in places.)
buckskin scout Posted November 17, 2012 #15 Share Posted November 17, 2012 (edited) Wow we are really cooking on these movies. Thanks for the contributions, I have missed so many titles. The films really went through cycles, in the 1950s it was all about the Atomic age monstrosities beginning with THEM!, then it was cheapie knockoffs of The Birds (or nature gone mad/revenge of mother nature), and continued with knockoffs of Jaws (rogue freaks of nature). Here are a few more: The Crater Lake Monster (1977) Deadly Eyes (1982) Tremors (1990) Edited November 17, 2012 by Ambush Bug

Here are a few more: The Crater Lake Monster (1977) Deadly Eyes (1982) Tremors (1990) Technically Beast From 20,000 Fathoms is the first atomic monstrosity, although Them is the first giant mutant movie. I'm surprised you didn't remember Tentacles. It was a fairly regular movie of the week showing. Started out pretty good, especially with that creepy music riff every time the thing showed up but it really bogged down toward the end. Would you include Day Of The Dolphin in the genera or not? It sort of fits in with the Jaws era but it's not so much an animals attack movie as a strap a bomb on the animal and turn it loose one.
buckskin scout Posted November 17, 2012 #17 Share Posted November 17, 2012 Technically Beast From 20,000 Fathoms is the first atomic monstrosity, although Them is the first giant mutant movie. Indeed. I'm surprised you didn't remember Tentacles. It was a fairly regular movie of the week showing. Started out pretty good, especially with that creepy music riff every time the thing showed up but it really bogged down toward the end. I remembered once you mentioned it. But missed it when I compiled these lists. I have been intentionally avoiding Kaiju and SyFy originals though because they are both so prolific. And the SyFy originals lack the historical perspective these older films possess. Would you include Day Of The Dolphin in the genera or not? It sort of fits in with the Jaws era but it's not so much an animals attack movie as a strap a bomb on the animal and turn it loose one. Day Of The Dolpin I dont believe fits-in with the genre, it is strictly a sci-fi thriller about dolphin research, shadow government, and weaponized animal assassins. Oniomancer Posted November 17, 2012 #18 Share Posted November 17, 2012 (edited) I remembered once you mentioned it. But missed it when I compiled these lists. Figured you had to've. It was probably on NBC about as often as Piranha at the time. I have been intentionally avoiding Kaiju and SyFy originals though because they are both so prolific. And the SyFy originals lack the historical perspective these older films possess. Yeah, I followed your lead on that. Let somebody else have fun with them. Have you noticed a lot of the Syfys have been directly ripping off the older films we've listed? Two of the latest ones really stood out that way from the bits I saw. Earthquake Spiders was a direct steal from Bug and Camel Spiders used roughly the same premise as arachnophobia. That last was extra-stupid because apparently nobody told them they already have solifugids in Arizona. Yes, I remember they used to show these types of movies all week long back in my youth like "Animals Strike Back Week", and show these "classic" drive-in cheapies from the 70s etc. They are simply unabashedly dumb movies but yet I give SyFy an A for effort despite the shoddy CGI and the fact these movies arent remotely as cult popular as they used to be. They can have dumb movie appeal.
