At least 14 Phantom squid have been seen or caught,in the last 60 days,off the coasts of Japan.
This squid rarely comes topside,and prefers depths of at least 200 meters ,down to 600 meters.

Most of the specimens found ,were dead.

Two live squid were found,and put into tanks ,but both died within 3 days.

The fear is ,shifts ,and possible volcanic activity below the water surface ,is displacing the animals .
