As she lifts her 'miracle' newborn baby to her chest, Sumatran orangutan Dana is the picture of contentment.

The 25-year-old gently holds the infant up before tenderly cradling the newborn and then cleaning it.

Not only are the pictures a moving insight into the bond that can exist between an animal mother and its child, they also made history.
