The Northwestern Michigan "Dogman"

I've been collecting information for a field study involving the eye-witness accounting reguarding the local legend surrounding the Michigan "Dogman". I'm trying to find some more information about known eyewitness accounts, and more about the legend itself. When I recently moved to Michigan I was suprised at how well known the legend itself was, apparently after the first recorded eye witness account, there have been interations and accounts exactly every 7 years around the woods of Northwestern Michigan. It's a very interesting and at time amusing legend and I'm trying every resource I can think of to root out anything I can get, I believe there are even some photos of markings and footprints left behind the "dogmans" emergences every 7 years. Theres even a folk song devoted to the accounts which is played heavily every halloween here locally. So if you have any information or know some better locations to ask, please email me at Walker644@aol.com

I've never actually heard of the "DogMan", but I've heard about a lot of other such strange "unique" creatures. These range from the Mothman to the Dover Demon, and are only ever really seen once or twice in a small period of time. Perhaps such creatures are the results of some sort of strange genetic experiments between humans and animals, alien experimentation, or something even more incomprehendable.

Since many bfs have an extended muzzle, and look a bit like a baboon, or a dog,

in the head, then viewers might call it a dogman.

Hello,

I came across this forum while looking for something else. There is a whole chapter devoted to background and sightings of the Michigan Dogman, with all known encounters, in my book, "The Beast of Bray Road, Tailing Wisconsin's Werewolf." It's available on amazon.com or on my web site http://www.cnb-scene.com/books.html There is a shorter article on my other web site, http://www.weirdmichigan.com The book, especially, will give you the references and further background you may need for research. The creature is very similar to the bipedal wolf-headed creature we have running around southern Wisconsin. I'm up to around 50 sightings now and halfway through a second book. Thanks! - Lorelady yes.gif

Sounds like mass hysteria to me. blink.gif Just a legend everyone wants to be real... Can anyone give me a link to sensible site on the subject? All I've read so far is just stories made up with a poorly, scribbling manner hmm.gif

Hi I was talking to a friend that didn't know what the dogman was. So I thought I would get on here to see what people had to say. I grew-up with this story. I have not head a thing about new accounts in will 14 years. If my Aunt and I are right there should have been something in 1994 and 2001. She said in 1987 there was to be something but not a thing. I think something happend to the dogman and he's deid. I have some guestions..... Why did he come out ever 7 years? Why did he go to a church?... some people think he is a deman but I think he want to be saved by the lord or whatever you believe in. If there was eye-account back in the late 1800's then why can't you go and look it up in the archive? If you can plz write me and tell me. You can get me at snowflake_cherry@yahoo.com

Thanks for you time.

The famous Dogman of Michigan? Never heard of it,and I am there in the north woods of northwest Michigan yearly.

This maybe from drinking too much, which happens quite frequently in that part of the country.

The UFO sightings in that area could also be attributed to the booze. But... then again there are weird tings in the night sky above the 45th parelel.

I've never heard of the dogman of Michigan, and I grew up in Michigan. I have done a lot hiking and camping in Northwestern Michigan, Petoskey State Park, the Lealanua penninsula, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the UP. I've seen lots of black bear, and they can stand on 2 legs at over 7 feet tall.

Interesting local legend. Monsters in the woods are common folklore all over the world.
