Still Waters Posted September 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2012 Archaeologists are meeting to discuss the Piltdown Man controversy, 100 years after the faked fossils were presented to the world. In 1912 remains of a human ancestor were claimed to have been discovered at a gravel pit in Piltdown, East Sussex. But in 1953 the remains - said to be a "missing" link in the evolution of man and apes - were subjected to new tests and proved to be a hoax. Dr Matthew Pope of University College London said the event was overdue. He has organised a conference in Lewes, where Charles Dawson the principal "discoverer" of the hoaxed Piltdown remains, worked as a lawyer. http://www.bbc.co.uk...ngland-19685013
The Mule Posted September 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2012 I cant wait to see how certain posters are going to wave this around as "proof" against evolution.... oh the pain....
Render Posted September 23, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2012 It's terrible how it's still being used as an anti-evolution proof. Just goes to show how little some understand evolution and scientific theories as a whole. The only thing the Piltdown man proves is the self-correcting nature of science.
