Still Waters Posted April 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2013 What was the largest extinction event of the last 12,000 years? Believe it or not, it’s birds. Scientists now say almost a thousand species of birds—many of them the big, flightless variety—disappeared from the Pacific Islands during the Holocene, killed by early settlers before the Europeans ever arrived. And because many of these species could only be found on these islands, the loss of their endemic populations meant global extinction. http://blogs.discove...56#.UVx5KEqRdRM
Wickian Posted April 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2013 We'll we're probably not the first migrating species to kill of an existing population.

Zeta Reticulum Posted April 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) They were a easy target for the lazy hunter. I don't blame the hunters for eating them. They would've been tasty, and full of meat. Edited April 3, 2013 by Zeta Reticulum
redhen Posted April 4, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2013 Yes, I don't know why people believe this myth that aborigines, in all continents, are somehow the Stewards of Mother Earth. Too many films like Avatar I guess.
