Remember When?

Recommended Posts

Thought I would start a thread for the members of UM to post personal pictures of a historical context, such as antiques, family memorabilia, or historical events that may have touched your lives. Remember the days when a sibling pulled you around in a Radio Flyer Wagon, or you had to use an outhouse, or even an outside water pump?

Maybe you even had to walk to school during blizzards in 20 feet of snow going uphill both ways? :D

I can’t stress this enough - It is extremely important that you only post pictures that you own the copyright too, so as not to infringe on the copyrights of others.

OH this is so cool. That's for this Kari. It sort of reminds me of a *Throwback Thursday* type picture thread. Great idea! I will find a couple pictures and post them soon :P

My Grandparents on Frank's 1916 Harley Davidson.

Grandma Ellen seems comfortable sitting sidesaddle.

That is so cool! I am sure that your Grandmother, riding sidesaddle, is displaying the proper etiquette for young women of that time period.

Long story but I adopted a Florida Panther named Mya years ago and we were in Florida visiting her and that's her cage. (Basically I donated a sum of money to support her for life -medical and food and all that. i have the adoption papers). I have some pic's of her too. She is now at Alligator Alley and sadly haven't been able to travel to see her for a few years now from health issues.

Aren't Florida Panthers on the endangered species list or am I mistaken? Sher-ra I think that was so cool of you to adopt her! :tu:

Yes, that's why I did it. I also allowed them to then do DNA testing to be sure she is 100% Florida Panther and she is so the last I heard they were going to mate her. I feel badly for not keeping in touch with them but she is well taken care of :tu:

Remember when you use to go down by the crick to go "Pollywoggin" just for entertainment? One of my favorite pastimes was to try to catch little Pollywogs in the Rivers and Cricks that ran by our house. Pic is of my Sister, Cousin, and an excellent shot of my backside! LOL!

I'll have to find the pictures of my dad with Prince Rainier in about 1980 (?) sometime just before the Prince died. My dad also knew Marilyn Monroe through Joe DiMaggio. Okay I'm done for now. I will post more soon.

Can I just upload a video of some of my walls here with the pictures on them? It would save me time I think? Or is that creepy?

Also, KariW and ZZ do you like Billy Joel? I have pictures of me with him  It's a long story...aren't they all?...but I ended up hanging out with him on a trip and then the next day I sang Happy Birthday to him and embarrassed the heck out of my hubby. Hubby is in the pictures too. let me know if you want to see those? Or I can just stick with Older photos of my Dad and Grandparents and stuff :tu: Just let me know. Or I can PM some stuff to you. Whatever you want.

I love this one of you on this horse with your Daddy. You are absolutely precious *pinches cheeks* :P I love how your Daddy is so dapper. The men dressed so differently back then and everything was so proper and buttoned up. It's wonderful. Thank you. And yes, I will go on a mission to get to some good pic's to share soon.

I LOVE the 1967 Picture above. You look like a STUD in that uniform *eyebrow wiggle* tee hee! Great photo's ZZ and thank you for sharing :) This is so fun!

OMG! She-ra, I would love to see those pics of you and Billy Joel! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!

Well for now I just took pictures of the picture I have on my wall :P Sorry it looks really kind of bad but I will walk you thru it because it was hard to get the whole thing in.

My hubby and I were sitting out by Lake Cuomo when we were staying at a hotel called the Villa D'Este. From the Lobby you could go through this huge revolving glass door and out to a back veranda area with a baby grand piano and tables set up right there looking up at the Italian Alps. We had just been in the city shopping around and decided to go sit by the lake out back before dinner. When we went outside we noticed a guy playing beautiful piano out there all by himself with a funky blue beret on his head :P

So we sat one table over from the guy playing piano. I looked up and it was Billy Joel just hanging out. Long story short...we were there with him talking and singing for at least an hour or so until Katie Lee came out (you can see her legs sitting by the piano). When one of my girlfriends came and found us and where we were and what we were doing she took these pictures. When we got home she framed them for me. I still have the wine glass he drank from in a cabinet (the one sitting in front of him on the piano - see last picture the best). I know, creepy right?

So the picture was hard to get since it's a bunch of pictures in one frame. So, with all that - whew - here it is. I will try to take it off the wall maybe tomorrow to get better shots. There was a lot of reflection in my cell phone camera :P Enjoy!

So here you can see the first picture is my hubby, then my big fat head, then in the background Billy Joel on piano...as the shots progess he gets closer and closer. I hope you can see it okay with this.

2hpomyg.jpg

I tried to do half the frame then the other half. I hope this is okay:

4hs3t5.jpg

In the 3rd pic you can see Katie Lee's legs sitting in the chair next to the piano. He looks far away in these shots but he wasn't more than 15 (?) feet away from me the whole time.

xodxyg.jpg

Ugh - LOL I guess I was kind of *fan girling* out on poor Billy Joel. I do love his work. Remind me later to tell you about "the old lady" that came up and what she said to him. Hysterical.

I also saw him the next day and walked with him a bit in Bellagio. That's where I saw him and we had been talking about his birthday the day before so I sand him Happy Birthday on the streets of Bellagio :P Yes, I'm a weirdo! I have no shame. Oh well...
