'The Watcher' forces family to flee from home

It sounds like the plot of a horror movie - but for one family, this story is all too real.

A couple says they were forced out of their dream house after receiving threatening letters from someone who goes by an ominous name: "The Watcher."

The couple alleges that "The Watcher" sent them and their three children a trio of threatening letters last summer. According to court documents obtained by NBC News, the mysterious writer allegedly asked the family, "Why are you here? I will find out."

My stepmom and I were listening to a couple of people talking about this Thursday morning. I find it very interesting and it has my attention. I heard the family is suing the previous owner because they knew about the "stalker/watcher" and didn't disclose the information. :/ I hope this gets resolved soon.

A watcher... must be reasonably closeby to watch, specially as he said stuff about who was in the bedrooms. close the curtains and enjoy life! Ive seen detective programs where they really analyse the paper for fingerprints and the lick strip for dna, perhaps the cops dont consider it important enough for that sort of scrutiny

Given everything in the article (which is admittedly not much). I think this might be a hoax being done by the family.

Or some viral marketing thing gone overboard, I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt its not that.

But no charges have been filed, and if this is a thing that has been doing on for 2 previous generations, i don't think this is the first we would've heard about this.

#4 if this watcher is anywhere serious like he sounds, he probably wear gloves when touching the paper and writing his letter plus uses water to seal the envelope...

That's a good point, and yeah, that's how I'd go about it if I were doing something like this.

But, using Occam's razor would lead to point towards the family.

That is unless more information becomes available.

Kinda scary, and I agree with Iron Lotus - Install lots of cameras!

Kind of sounds like a movie, I wouldn't let some wack job run me out of my house, I would be installing cameras, getting a dog.

I'd Buy a big pair of binoculars then id be the one doing the watching until i catch him, then i'd watch hes silly ass go to jail.

Reminds me of the movie Pacific Heights. And like the movie, it could be someone is trying to drive down the value of a house that they want in order to come in and buy it cheap, hoping no one will ever know they were the cause of the reduction in value and of terrorizing the previous owners.

What is in the wall? Could it be the body of an old man with the eye of a vulture, a pale blue eye with a film over it that the watcher killed? Like in the Edgar Allan Poe short story "The Tell-Tale Heart"?

Seriously?! Why doesn't the police stake out the area, considering this guy is obviously nearby watching all of the time. Why should they waste time being angry at the previous residents, when they should be catching this guy and throwing him away for good. This is a nutjob out on the loose, get him and help the whole freaking neighborhood! Hasn't the police been brought in? I really am confused at this, considering this made the media.

Isn't this considered stalking and illegal?!?!

This is sounding more and more like the family is trying to weasel out of a bad real estate deal.

That is very possible - but none the less - still very disturbing.

This is obviously are very manipulative and sick individual.

What I did find most disturbing was the remark -

"I am pleased to know your names now, and the name of the young blood you have brought to me."

Now this was obviously said in reference to their children - some kind of sick and twisted veiled threat.

Since they and the authorities, are clueless as to who this individual is thus far.

I would have probably moved out of the residence as well - more so to protect my children.

When it comes to children - no parent should take a risk.

Lets hope they apprehend this nutter soon, so this family can live in peace.

Also - putting the blame on the previous owners, for not disclosing information concerning these letters - is pretty much a legal grey

area I would think.

It really wasn't their fault.

How would they have known - that the letters would continue on to the next owners ? :innocent:

His father's father and his father watched the house? So during "watching", they were able to produce offspring and then raise offspring to know how, when and where to watch a particular house that has something in the walls. Is the current watcher toting around a child now, too? I would assume his kid would need to pass on the family tradition. God forbid the guy's kid decides to work at McDonald's instead of following in his daddy's footsteps. The something in the walls is called insulation. Why would I be digging around in the walls? If there is a dead body in there, then it's decomposed and it can just stay there, it's not smelling after all this time. If only the people who spend all their time doing bad things, could put that energy and creativity to good things, the whole world would be a better place.

I would not move out, I would **** with him back. I'd say My redneck crazy uncle with post traumatic stress disorder that came back from the war all ****ed up is in that bedroom facing the road and he has a machine gun. Don't enter downstairs cuz I keep my 8 pitbulls saved from euthinization down there cuz they just killed the mailman, and a jogger last year. And where's the treasure in the walls? Cuz we just remodeled the whole place and only found old insulation and a dead mouse. I suggest you go back to playing your computer games in your mom's basement cuz you got the wrong house b**** lol. Now if they sent me a video or some sort of proof they were watching my family/house, then I could get the police involved. Otherwise, it's just a bored idiot wanting some thrill

Umm! - I don't think they have the stalkers return address to express their feelings jpriest

Edit to add - the stalker does not need to send a video to prove that he/she has been watching the house.

The creep in question - has already sent them letters to confirm this.

This is sounding more and more like the family is trying to weasel out of a bad real estate deal.

Not necessarily a bad deal, but to commit a fraud.

The sticking point to me is why send letters to the sellers and estate brokers? By all account, those letters (the only ones the seller and estate broker have received?) were sent only a week before the new occupants were supposed to take title, so the claims of "watching for decades" ring somewhat hollow. If the letters to the buyer were indeed sent by a psycho, then why wouldn't that person send them only to the occupant(s) and only after they had actually taken up residence? Why would someone desiring to torment the new occupants warn them ahead of time, and why send letters to the sellers and brokers who are not on their "psycho radar"?

They also provide for convenient 'evidence' of misdemeanour on the part of the seller and broker when the buyer lodges suit against them.

It smacks a bit of a fraudulent 'sting' operation.

MeOnlyMe,

Sounds like the previous owners want the house back.

Given the high probability they would be sued and lose more than they stood to gain, I find it unlikely the sellers are the perpetrators behind the letters.

I think you making points that I think would show this is more than just a particular single individual who is just doing now. Wouldn't the previous family report such things to the police?

I find this quite creepy. I also find it hard to believe that if the house has been watched for decades, that this is the first time we hear about it? I can't beelieve thepolice are that inept as to not have caught someone after decades.

There is very little information in this article but I agree that something is fishy. 1.3 million is a large amount of money and there could be a lot of motivation to create a hoax like this. If it really is a criminal act, it's beyond stalking, it's terrorism - a very serious crime that would get the cop's attention. My gut tells me there's way more to this story than we're getting.
