Still Waters Posted January 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2015 Concorde may have been retired but a British Airways passenger jet approached supersonic speed this week as it rode a surging jet stream from New York to London. The Boeing 777-200 jet reached a ground speed of 745mph as it rode winds of more than 200mph across the Atlantic. At ground level, the speed of sound is 761mph. http://www.telegraph...ecord-time.html
Space Commander Travis Posted January 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2015 I was looking at Flightradar 24 when there was strong winds, it's quite interesting, there were eastbound flights knocking on 600 knots and westbound flights struggling to reach 400 knots.
