Fairies - Ever come face to face?

Growing up in Newfoundland myself I never really grew up into the whole fairy aspect or was never told to put bread in my pockets and not wonder off into the woods or the fairies will get me lol but recently I got into the whole fact of fairies mostly because of all the stories I heard from close experiences my friends had. Although I never ran face to face with one there is one story that made me start to believe them.

There was a young couple walking down a dark road in a rural community one night on their way home and the female was shocked when the male turned to look at her yelling "what did you just say to me?" The female replied with "I never said anything to you" the male looking very shocked was confused when the girl told him that. He took her by the wrist and told her to run as quick as they can home. When they got home the male quickly ran into his room hurdling up into the fetal position. Days later he wouldn't eat or sleep still not moving from the spot. When they asked him who and what did they say to you he replied with I don't know who and I can't tell, they said If I did they would come and take me away. Seconds later a older woman (possibly related to them) walked past and looked at him and said "Seen the fairies did ya?" the guy nodded.

Been a while sense I heard the story but I know that to this day the guy will still not tell a soul what they told him that night.

What do you think? Got any similar stories you want to tell?

Sounds like a "fairy tale" to me... Just an "urban" myth from the sound of it... Being of Irish descent, I grew up hearing many stories

about "the wee folk", and a part of me wish they were true... But I am afraid they only exist in our myths, legends and imagination...

BTW welcome to UM!

So he must of known who it was to be able to answer the old dear, so how is he still alive if he did answer the old lady when he was told he would be taken away if he told any one and who they were OR what they were?

Pirates of the caribbean just popped into my head, the scene with jack in the prison and the scruffy men say that the black pearl leaves no survivors, then where do the tales come from? Asks jack.

Apperently they told him if he ever told anyone what they said they would come and take him away. He never told her he just nodded his head acknowledging that it was fairies. To be fair im not even sure if he nodded his head or not.

I've heard a lot of stories, but I've never seen any good evidence.

I personally believe in faeries or "fae folk". If you want to attract them you can build thinks like fairy houses and leave gifts, but never leave iron. It burns them.

The whole mythology of fairies only came about due to a couple of children who took that infamous photograph of supposed fairies which were in fact flies on their hands. The children's mother was renowned for her stitching and sewing, they'd learnt from her and they'd made these miniature costumes, tiny human-looking bodies. They'd merely dressed the house flies in these little costumes and taken the photograph and spread the fib around the village and people being people were hysterical about it, jumping into their horses and carts, carriages and such, fleeing for the hills. It was the earliest report of a War of the Worlds-esque mass panic. That was largely forgotten about and the myth of fairies has grown ever since. If you were to look at the statistics of the popularity of these fairy myths they'd view much like a bar chart, rising and falling - less reports or talk these days of fairies.

Actually the mythology of fairies was invented by the dinosaurs, and then was later passed down to humans by way of the snake people. There is no fairies, but there are shoggoths..... And Daleks are real too.

Longest time spent staring at someone's post, an hour and fourteen minutes and five seconds? Enthralling, still not true though. There's no definitive proof of fairies other than household flies in fancy dress posing for photographs or common flies in tutus that give that final tug to kids' wobbly teeth and leave a £1 coin under pillows. Cash is lighter, but rarely are they so generous.

According to myth, most people that happened to disappeared, and only a few came back Years (sometimes decades) later. Beware!

I think that's a dream you had and not something that actually happened.

I believe you're thinking of the Cottingley Fairies photographs and you have the story horribly wrong.

They were clipped from paper and staged.

Did a good job of it for the time and for little girls... :tu:

That make me even more interested. Unfortunately, if a fairy seen me it would probably it would never come back to this realm again.

Oh good...After reading through that initial explanation, I was very confused. I remember the Cottingley Fairies quite well, but house flies, dressed in tiny clothes? LOL

I like the connections between UFO Abduction stories and Fairy Folk Lore. Some of the old UFO researchers pointed out alot of that, and it's a fascinating idea.

it seems like every age has its myths, all very similar, dont go into the woods etc, they will take you. Today its aliens, it used to be fairies, before that there were tales of goblins. There have been many tales through the ages and every age has its tales to fit in with its times.

IIRC it was dubbed "the Oz Factor" (as in "Wizard of ..." rather than "lazy shorthand for Australia").

Actually, faeries and goblins came from roughly the same period, just different parts of Europe (the Fair Folk in the Isles, Goblins in the black forests of Europe).
