New Solar Active Region Spitting Out Flares

An active region on the sun, numbered AR 1504, rotated into view over the left side of the sun on June 10, 2012. The region fired off two M-class flares and two coronal mass ejections (CMEs) on June 13 and June 14, 2012. The first flare lasted for a relatively long three hours, peaking on June 13, 2012 at 9:17 AM EDT. The associated CME traveled at approximately 375 miles per second and is directed toward Earth, though due to its slow speed, the effect on Earth is expected to be minimal.

This one may not harm us but one of these days there will be one that shuts down the internet.

Unlikely due to the fact that the internet is not centralised. These solar storms can cause problems by knocking out communications satellites and cause damage to electronics at high Northern (and to a lesser extent Southern) regions but they don't produce these problems on a global scale.

UPDATE: Two CMEs Hit Earth’s Magnetosphere

On June 16, 2012 at 4:55 AM EDT, the combined effects of two coronal mass ejections from AR 1504, passed NASA's Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) spacecraft on the way toward Earth's protective magnetic bubble, the magnetosphere. ACE is approximately 900,000 miles from Earth and can detect such incoming shocks about 30-45 minutes before they hit the magnetosphere.

Although the greatest risk for gravitational flux will come on Dec. 21, 2012, June 20, 2012 and June 20, 2013 will signal the beginning and end of the great disaster. Keep your eye on earthquakes, plate shifts and volcanic explosions to increase up to 12-21-12, then they will begin to taper off.

The allignment with the center of the Milky Way will also cause our sun to act in more erratic and unpredictable ways, such as CME's on the scale we have not seen before. Losing the internet? One big one and this planet will be without electricity for 3 months. Let the food and gas riots begin.

This sort of stuff belongs in the Modern Mysteries, New Age and 2012 section, not here.

Thank you.
