She-ra Posted May 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2015 Doctors and veterinarians in the southwestern United States should keep an eye out for cases of plague, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Read more here: http://www.livescience.com/50687-colorado-plague-lessons-learned.html This really stood out to me: The fourth person may have caught pneumonic plague from the dog's owner, which would make it "the first instance of possible human-to-human transmission" in the United States in 90 years, according to the CDC report, released today (April 30). seaturtlehorsesnake Posted May 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2015 scary, but it's an impressive measure of how far we've come to see that all four people recovered
Paranormalcy Posted May 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2015 Is this related to anti-vaccine stuff? But I like Seaturtle's reminder there was recovery. Very positive point. =)
She-ra Posted May 1, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted May 1, 2015 Is this related to anti-vaccine stuff? But I like Seaturtle's reminder there was recovery. Very positive point. =) That's a great question Paranormalcy. I don't see anything in this particular article stating these people were not vaccinated as they should be but I will continue to look and see if i can find anything on that. I wonder if this is a factor?
+HerNibs Posted May 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 1, 2015 Eh, I'm not surprised or alarmed. I do have sympathy for all those harmed and their loved ones. It happened in 2014. The announcement was yesterday. State is still going strong. Most of the residents of the state are well aware of the potential of fleas from squirrels or prairie dogs potentially carrying something dangerous. http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/insect/05600.html I live near an area that is open space and it is FULL of the darn pest prairie dogs. We all know to keep our kids and pets away from them. It isn't terribly surprising that it happened. I guess what is surprising is that it passed from dog to human. I'm assuming this is the incident that started everything. Began with fleas on those damn pests. Plague Death in Colorado Plague found in Boulder County Nibs Nothing to do with vaccinations. Just rodents. Nibs

She-ra Posted May 1, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted May 1, 2015 Wow! Keep us posted if you hear anything more on this. I just read about it yesterday. I find it weird that this has been going on since 2014 and hasn't been discussed prior to yesterday. Weird.
