ExpandMyMind Posted December 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2012 Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has resigned after being charged with fraud and breach of trust following a long-running investigation. Mr Lieberman has also resigned as deputy prime minister, and said he would fight to clear his name of the charges. The case against him relates to a financial scandal dating back more than a decade. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-20731396 This is the best news I've heard in ages. Actually just made my day.
CuriousGreek Posted December 14, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2012 Well, i'm glad, that at least some politicians have the guts to do something like that!

More likely that he was forced out so as not to be brought into the smear campaign of the coming election. He would be a liability. Politicians rarely (if ever) leave of their own accord in this manner. Edited December 14, 2012 by ExpandMyMind
Yamato Posted December 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk...e-east-20731396 This is the best news I've heard in ages. Actually just made my day. After so much practice in denying crimes of the state, I'm not surprised to see the same pattern from the individual. The cracks forming in this regime continue. Professor T Posted December 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 14, 2012 *signs* Classic case of power/money corrupts imo.. This isn't just an Israili thing though. It's systemic across most countries.. Police had been investigating allegations of money laundering and bribery against Mr Lieberman, but prosecutors instead announced plans to charge him with the lesser offence of breach of trust. That relates to him receiving confidential documents concerning the investigation against him from the former Israeli ambassador to Belarus, who he later promoted to another post. The more serious charges of bribery and money laundering relate to allegations that Mr Lieberman received millions of dollars from businessmen with interests in Israel, and laundered the money through shell companies and bank accounts.
+and-then Posted December 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 14, 2012 They've certainly been after him long enough. If he truly is corrupt then he must have been good at hiding evidence or intimidating witnesses. I heard one report mention that some of his accusers died before they could testify. But in Israel even disgraced politicians can return - look at Olhmert.
