seeder Posted March 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2016 I bet this upset some UN commission rules that the Falklands are within Argentinian waters - prompting fears the South American nation will lay claim to its valuable oil reserves The UN has sided with Argentina in determining where its territory lies Its commission decided to extend the country's South Atlantic presence This includes fixing its territory at 200 to 350 miles from its coast The decision has sparked fears that Argentina will lay claim to its oil fields Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3513030/Argentina-hails-UN-decision-expand-maritime-territory.html#ixzz44K8SyY6H

Sir Wearer of Hats Posted March 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2016 Despite the overwhelming decision of the Falkland Islanders. Bravo UN, once again demonstrating how ******* useless you are.

Finity Posted March 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) This doesn't mean the islands are in their waters. The Falklands has it's own territorial waters. Besides. The UK's defence force down there on it's own is more than a match for Argentina's if they want to try anything. Everyone knows the UN is toothless, so they don't do anything. PersonFromPorlock Posted March 29, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 29, 2016 Maggie will never stand for this! Oh, wait.... Still, when the fighter-pilot spirit joins with the Latin-American machismo spirit, it can usually be counted on to cry "Glory!" and fly into a mountainside. That may be enough to save the UK after decades of deciding its money was better spent elsewhere than on the military.
Crabby Kitten Posted March 29, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) The UN can't decide on something like that. It isn't their right to do so. The Falklanders themselves decided what it is they want, to remain British. They don't want to be ruled by Argentinians. This has nothing to do with the UN at all. The Argies would have been a lot harder to overcome in 1982 if so many of their bombs had not failed to explode. I read a story about a large aerial bomb that crashed through the deck into the innards of the RN ship, only to come to rest next to a radio operator, unexploded. I do hope that bloke did not buy any lottery tickets after that, his quota of luck was already used up ! As soon as possible. yes, and get the hell out from new york, their building looks like an eyesore, an effing ugly box, i bet trump could demolish it and build something a lot better looking, and with a better purpose too Edited March 30, 2016 by aztek

Once the fleet Eason scene and the carrier was flying sorties and troops were on the ground. The war would of played out the same.
Space Commander Travis Posted April 4, 2016 #16 Share Posted April 4, 2016 Now this is funny. I'd strongly recommend reading this. http://www.counterpunch.org/2016/04/04/las-malvinas-son-argentinas-return-to-the-falklands/ Best of all note this bit: As for the 3000 inhabitants of the Falklands, if this contemptible group of people continue with their obdurate refusal to countenance any negotiation over shared sovereignty or any change to the status quo with Argentina at all, choosing instead to embrace the dubious privilege of prancing around in Union Jack underwear, let them do it in Britain itself. "The people who live there? Who gives a ****** what they think?" The Left, if you asked them, would argue most fervently that they hold Democracy sacrosanct. Unless they don't agree with what the people who live there want, of course.

I find it hilarious that it ignores the fact that the Spanish invaded and occupied the British controlled islands in the 1700s. Prior to this Spanish force arriving only the British and scene brad made any real attempt to colonize the islands.

Thorvir Posted April 5, 2016 #19 Share Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) How about this. The Argies can scrape up whatever military force they can, and the Brits/Falkanders will do the same and they go at it. Just like the issue of Israeli defense against Palestinian terrorism, let them fight it out and settle it once and for all. The victors get the spoils and no one can change that after it happens, no more talk of the Falklands "unjustly" belonging to anyone, it is settled and everyone can move on to more important things. Let's see what Argentina is willing to do and say then.
stevewinn Posted April 5, 2016 #21 Share Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) The United Nations has a department, committee and policy to actively seek Decolonisation, This applies to all countries with over seas territories not just the UK. But the Falklands does full under this Policy. Its a good job the UK holds a veto, because i think we'd lose any UN vote: because many countries around the world would love nothing more than the destruction of the British empire legacy. According to the Falklands News paper, the UN Ruling has been misquoted. in the sense that the claim that the Falklands are in Argentine Waters are not correct. as shown on these maps: and just to rub the hand wringers up the wrong way: Edited April 5, 2016 by stevewinn
