But when did they really begin to control fire and use it for their daily needs? "Humans" were not around 300,000 years ago - considering humans are Homo sapiens. Neither had "humans" discovered fire ~ 1 million years ago. The hominin species that were around at that time (300kya) would be H. neanderthalensis, H. heidelbergensis, and H. erectus - although others (such as the Denisovans) may also have been around.
