Still Waters Posted May 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2014 The crew from Hove Community Fire Station were called to Lancing Preparatory School in The Droveway, Hove, at about 7pm to deal with a classroom that had been filled with smoke. The fire had started by sunlight shining through a crystal ball which was near a scarf and the heat generated began to burn the scarf. http://www.theargus....y_crystal_ball/
:PsYKoTiC:BeHAvIoR: Posted May 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Black magic is evil! EVIL!!! But seriously, I didn't think a glass sphere would allow light to cumulate at one concentrated point, similar to a magnifying glass.
rashore Posted May 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Spheres can be rather serious focuses used in light tec. There's even little solar chargers now that use a ball to focus light powerfully on a small cell. Fires have been started with water globes too, like snowglobes and fish tanks. That school is lucky the fire was caught when it was.
Eldorado Posted May 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Aye.... you need to be extra careful when you have crystal balls.
