Analyze Emotion in Photo Faces... and Art?

Microsoft has a photo recognition "tool" that finds faces in a picture and analyzes them for very broad emotions (happy, sad, neutral, etc).\

You just upload a photo to the site and it will put a square around each face it finds and you hover them to see what emotions their tool thinks are being displayed. They also have a tool to tell you if a picture is "adult" or not, but this post is about the emotion recognition.

The weird thing about this is - it works with art. I had it analyze a number of my pictures and it found faces and analyzed the emotions the characters were displaying. It seems like this ... I don't know if I'd say it's significant, because It obviously finds "earmerks" common to all faces, but still - this means ... artists can relay fictional emotions for fictional characters? Weird, anyway.

It would probably result in a lot of Neutral and Contempt and Anger. That would be interesting, to see what emotions politicians display! Clever idea, Bubbly!

Would be great if it could do the same with animals. My dogs ears stick up too (as the guy in your pic), it means they are listening, but would like to know what he is feeling to what he is hearing....not always easy to know, my westie always looks like a snob and my cocker always looks like he wants to play and eat.

This technology probably is or will be used to determine if you're a threat to society.

I wonder if my ghosts would show up as eyes? And that's a good idea about pets too, I tried to upload a few animal photos and it couldn't find a face so yeah, not yet.

So I can input a series of Trump photos to be told by a machine that he is some sort of machine?

I guess that differs from photo to photo this one:

GOP_2016_Trump-01aa7-3485.jpg

shows:

"Anger": 0.162103638,

"Contempt": 0.0449817255,

"Disgust": 0.2447979,

"Fear": 0.00748884352,

"Happiness": 0.00369836157,

"Neutral": 0.343665153,

"Sadness": 0.0125229992,

"Surprise": 0.1807414

or nothing at all....

Neutral, Disgust, Surprise, Anger, Contempt and a tiny bit of Sadness, in that order.

Negligible Happy and Scared. I'd agree - that's Trump alright.

The problem in that case is that all emotions fall into the negligible slot... I would say Botox.

In fact, the more pictures I analyze of the guy the more I start believing that he does Botox:
