TAPS radio mentions UM

Posted by Saru  , 14 November 2009 - 10:44 AM

A while ago we asked members to keep a look out for UM being mentioned in the media, whether it be on a TV series, a radio show or somewhere else. This next one comes courtesy of Ebonykrow who heard us being mentioned by Ghost Hunters Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson on their TAPS Para-Radio show, the pair read out a news story we featured a while back about Jack the Ripper.

New ways to get your UM fix

Posted by Saru  , 01 November 2009 - 11:31 AM

One thing we'll be doing over the next little while is implementing new ways for visitors to keep up to date with the latest news and happenings on UM. At the moment other than visiting the site directly the only other way you can follow us is via RSS feed, in the age in which mobile phones and other portable devices with internet connections are becoming more and more commonplace we'd like to offer a few more ways for visitors to keep up to speed with the site both while at and away from your computer. We'll be launching the first of these in a few days time.

UM hammered by Google logo change

Posted by Saru  , 07 September 2009 - 11:38 AM

On September 5th search engine giant Google changed their "Google doodle" to show a UFO abducting the letter "o", clicking on the logo brought up a search for the term "unexplained phenomena" which lists us as the first entry on the results page. Because of this UM received a huge influx of traffic over a very short period of time, more than our poor servers were able to handle and resulting in some slow loading until the Google logo was changed again a day later.

It turned out that this was to be the first of a series of unexplained themed doodles that would appear on their home page, after a lot of speculation amongst the on-line community Google finally revealed what they were about:

Quote

We’re finally acknowledging the reason for the doodles with an official nod to Herbert George, who would be 143 years old today. Inspiration for innovation in technology and design can come from lots of places; we wanted to celebrate HG Wells as an author who encouraged fantastical thinking about what it possible, on this planet and beyond. - Source

A noble sentiment indeed.

UM on Destination Truth

Posted by Saru  , 25 April 2008 - 01:58 PM

Perhaps not quite as good (or bad depending on how you look at it) as appearing in a certain Lindsey Lohan movie earlier this year, Cryptoman spotted us featured on the SciFi Channel series 'Destination Truth', this time printed out on some pieces of paper being browsed through by host Joshua Gates during a plane trip. The episode was investigating the wild man of Cambodia and Mokele Mbembe.

Here's a still from the episode courtesy of Legatus Legionis on the forums:

If anyone comes across any other television shows where UM has made an appearance please do let us know.

UM appears on the big screen

Posted by Saru  , 02 February 2008 - 12:47 PM

If you plan on going to see the new Lindsey Lohan movie I know who killed me keep your eyes open for the scene where Dakota looks up the internet for 'unexplained bleeding', UM is the site that comes up in the search results and she clicks through to it.

I haven't seen the movie yet but big thanks to Finsup22 for confirming that we are indeed in it, the folks behind the film contacted us a few months back to ask permission to use the site in the movie but I wasn't sure if they'd actually use us in the final cut.

The movie has only been released in the US as far as I know, but if you go to see it look out for us there.

Here's a clip courtesy of Jesspy, we turn up at around 2:40
