Waspie_Dwarf Posted June 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2015 NASA Spacecraft Detects Impact Glass on Surface of Mars NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has detected deposits of glass within impact craters on Mars. Though formed in the searing heat of a violent impact, such deposits might provide a delicate window into the possibility of past life on the Red Planet.During the past few years, research has shown evidence about past life has been preserved in impact glass here on Earth. A 2014 study led by scientist Peter Schultz of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, found organic molecules and plant matter entombed in glass formed by an impact that occurred millions of years ago in Argentina. Schultz suggested that similar processes might preserve signs of life on Mars, if they were present at the time of an impact. Cesadelo Posted June 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2015 It's amusing how humanity concentrates on analysing the universe when we haven't even fully explored our own oceans.
Waspie_Dwarf Posted June 8, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted June 8, 2015 It's amusing how humanity concentrates on analysing the universe when we haven't even fully explored our own oceans. It's not an either/or situation. We, as a species, are capable of studying multiple subjects at the same time. Just because we haven't finished studying the oceans doesn't meant that we can't study the universe any more than the fact that we haven't solved global hunger doesn't mean we can't look for a cure for cancer. Multi-tasking is a good thing.

Thorvir Posted June 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 9, 2015 It's amusing how humanity concentrates on analysing the universe when we haven't even fully explored our own oceans. Thankfully, our species has the ability to multi-task. And there's enough of us for all sort of explorations at one time.
kartikg Posted June 9, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 9, 2015 Why don't they put microscopes on the mars mission? It's a genuine question not intended to spark any conspiracy theory.
Grandpa Greenman Posted June 13, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 13, 2015 With mars's gravity being what it is, how much fuel do you need to get a small payload of maybe 5 lbs off the surface and back to earth? They could put a up a rover with a bucket to pick up a few rocks and put them a small craft. Seem like it could be done. Sigh.... fossil hunting on mars.
