Security hole found in Mozilla browser

11:30 AM July 9

Developers at the open-source Mozilla Foundation have confirmed that the latest version of their Web browsers have a security flaw that could theoretically allow attackers to crash computers or launch unauthorised programs.

The flaw was publicised Wednesday on a security mailing list, along with a link to a fix for the problem . Updated versions of the affected software programs, which include the Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird browsers, have been released.

Developers said the flaw affected only Windows users, not computers running either the Macintosh or Linux operating systems.

The news comes as Microsoft has been dealing with a string of security flaws found in its Internet Explorer browser during the past several weeks. Some researchers had begun recommending that people worried about online security stop using the IE browser altogether.

Microsoft recommends that Web surfers using Internet Explorer keep abreast of the latest security warnings, and go to the company's Protect Your PC site.

Mozilla developers said that future versions of the Firefox Web browser would have automatic update notifications that would make it easier to notify users about security fixes.

Naturally

Naturally? I just dont get what people dont like about Microsoft, just becos windows users get more viruses and are more wanted by hackers doesnt mean that it lacks securety, it meens that most hackers/crakers simply dont like microsoft, so they put their atention towards microsoft users, as a mather of fact, hakers created UNIX, why would they want to attack their own creation?

Personaly, I prefer windows, I have tryed macintosh and linux, and I have to say that microsoft is much more powerfull, although linux does have a few advantages, especially when it comes to graphics

Actually , windows has been proven to have much more security flaws then any other operating system . Its an extremely unstable OS . I have 3 windows computers and 1 linux ... the superiority of my linux security wise

Is obvious .

umm ... no . You were probobly using an older computer when you tried the mac and the linux . Macintosh is on par with windows power-wise and

superior security wise , and linux blows microsoft windows out of the water with a BFG 9000 in every way . The only problem is that people are used to windows and may have trouble getting around at first but you will find that if you give them a chance they will grow on you . Its much more likely that when you tested other OS's you were facing inferior hardware , not software .

And microsoft itself is a lousy company ... they have yet to give out an original idea . click here if you dont believe me

Um... Hackers didn't create Unix. It was devolped in the late '60 at Bell Labs by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie (only names I can think of at the moment, look 'em up if you wanna know the whole team) and their co-workers.

Oh sure, you're just installing a different internet browser. I had to install the mozilla browser because my ancient machine had an older (4.0) version of IE, and I had real problems accessing the forum after Saruman installed the google ads. The browser itself is only about 20mb in size, but just as powerful as IE, which is 5 times the size. tongue.gif

No, its free, and you can download it from HERE. They give you several options, you can download the full version, or the smaller internet browser version. Just remember to choose the 'Windows' version when you click the link. The current version is 1.7, don't click on the beta version, as that will have a few bugs in it. tongue.gif
