'Artificial humans' to replace animal testing

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

SCIENTISTS are creating artificial humans for use in laboratory testing, potentially doing away with the need for experiments that claim the lives of up to 90m animals each year.

Animal laboratories will begin to be replaced by "farms" made up of hundreds of artificial human machines, within three years, experts forecast.

Good. The usage of animal testing is one of the things that disgusts me the most about humanity.

We, as shepherds, kill, torment, maim and otherwise destroy animals in the quest to make sure that nail polish will not burn the eyes of idiots who want to put nail polish in their eyes.

Everyone is being replaced with robots. Soon there will be no use for anything living.

Seriously glad this is going to stop and we won't need animals to find that next Ebola treatment or the cure for cancer. If these micro-humans can be used for that kind of testing.

Animals are imperfect analogs of human physiology. While we share much in common with other mammals, we are not white mice. Some things that are toxic to animals are harmless in humans and probably vice versa. We have used animals (white mice for example) because they are relatively cheap and available. The ethics involved in using animals for research has to be weighed against the possible benefits for saving and preserving human life. If a better alternative is available, that is an advance in science and I would say one in ethics also. However, while growing artificial organs for testing may give us a better idea of how drugs and other chemicals work on human tissue, that is not the complete human body, and the expense involved to grow and keep alive human organs outside the body will no doubt raise the price of chemical testing and new drug approval, possibly putting useful medical advances out of the economic reach of those who may need them.

IMO,best news EVER...I think this kind of testing would be much more accurate anyway,as I always felt that testing on animals wouldn't have the best results for reactions from a human body, which is what the drugs/products are tested for..yes they're mammals, but something that is not highly toxic to a rat for example might be extremely toxic to a human..and besides, with all the tech advances we have now,it's an old and SEVERELY outdated mode of scientific research..I liked your comment,Sundew, very insightful :)

My only concern is that I hope that artificial humans are actually accurate enough. I somehow feel like we dont know enough about the body to make artificial replicas.

Otherwise why havent we been mass producing effective artificial organs?

This is good news finally! Sick of playing God with animals and treating them like second class earthlings. They have feelings, consciousness, and what we believe a soul to be. It's been a general holocaust on animals for at least 2000 years.

We finally decided on cloning. I was waiting for that to happen.

Alright, everyone. Time to celebrate. Get the cold ones.

My plan to replace my cat with a "robotic feline replacement-surrogate love unit with fully integrated purr functionality" ran afoul when both the in and standard organic felines rose in revolt.
