Outwitted by a small, black cat called Elsa.

    By Waspie_Dwarf

I have a small, black cat named Elsa. She is good company, generally very quiet and very well natured (although not always so well behaved). We are, however, in a battle of wits over a chair, and I think I am losing. A few weeks ago a relative of mine moved and had more chairs than was strictly necessary for her smaller flat. The chairs are much newer than the ones I had and so she gave them to me. That is where the battle started. Initially Elsa was happy to claim a chair of her

Travel: Alaska

Growing up an Army Brat, I have had to move various times in my life and travel to various places. The first that comes to my memory is Fort Greely Alaska. I lived there from the time I was 5 years old to 6 years old (1993-1994) So I spent my Kindergarden and First Grade years there. Many Years later I moved there again, this time to Anchorage (2003-2005). One thing I can tell you about Alaska is that the winters are long and cold almost all year around and it snows all the time. There are both

Lessons from Holy Week

Lessons from Holy Week Holy Week has some powerful truths to tell us if one can ponder them.   This also means contemplating one's life.   If a Christian, this can lead to a deeper understanding of one of life’s mysteries.  That is of course, why there is so much injustice in the world, so much random suffering.  No one escapes suffering, not even the richest and most powerful.  In fact, in their way, they may suffer more than others.  Being rich and powerful brings pitfalls that those of u

A nursing home visit, some shopping, and an intelligent worker

A nursing home visit, some shopping, and an intelligent worker The Monastery is about 15 miles from a town called Covington.  It is a nice place and has a beautiful town square.   We do not need to go there often   Just for the occasional doctor appointment near the Hospital.  It is starting to grow now and is slowly losing its small-town ambiance.  Progress for small towns does come with a heavy price. Currently, we have one of our brothers in one of the rehab centers/nursing homes

Gajashima

Here’s a weird one coming from the sub continent of India where we get a mythical creature with a lions body and the gead of an elephant. It’s likeness has found its way to parts of south east asia.   The gajasimha or gajasiha (from Sanskrit: gaja+siṃha / Pali: gaja+sīha) is a mythical hybrid animal in Hindu mythology, appearing as a sinha or rajasiha(mythical lion) with the head or trunk of an elephant. It is found as a motif in Indian and Sinhalese art,[1] and is used as a heraldic s

A Look at Demonology (Blast from the Past)

Mr. Magoo Meets Slimer. Artwork by Richard Vasseur. Concept by Paul Dale Roberts. Hello. My name is Paul Dale Roberts, demonologist and occult investigator. That is one of the perks of being a writer, I can basically give myself any title that I want. But, let me digress. Why would I call myself a demonologist? Have I ever exorcised a demon out of a possessed person? The answer is 'no'. Have I ever investigated a demonic home? The answer is 'no'. I will tell you I do know something about de

Destructive Habits Often Overlooked

Destructive Habits Often Overlooked “Even if you ceased to love Me, I should always love you. Even if you no longer listened for My voice in the silence, I should still make it possible for you to hear Me. This is how every sinner finds Me waiting. Who could ever weigh My love, or set a price on it, or measure it? And who could ever dream of the immensity of My tenderness? For My love is tender. When you hear Me say, ‘I am thirsty; I’m calling your tenderness.” . . . Bossis, Ga

The Simple Apple

The Simple Apple The more I write, the more a mystery, writing becomes for me.  I often think that writing is like being a weaver with many different colored threads that are woven together to make the essay, or story, into a sort of multilayered work of art.  Then when people read, they take the writing and make it their own, and what they find is not always what I intended.   So, putting what one writes out there is a form of letting go of ownership.  I am sometimes amazed at what peop

Celebrities I Met (Revision 3/16/2024)

Celebrities I Met (Revision 3/16/2024) By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI's Esoteric Detective Halo Paranormal Investigations - HPI International. During my lifetime I came across many celebrities. More by accident than on purpose. I want to name a few that I met and explain to you how I met them. Let’s start off with Edward James Olmos. March spiritual messages from the beyond

Synchronicity Given Meaning by Connections I was speaking with a friend who had recently suffered a familial loss. She described many coincidences that she’s experienced since her beloved’s death and, as I explained, this is because synchronicity, like dreams, is given meaning by the connections that we make internally to an external event. After carefully examining photographs, she noticed numbers appearing in places she hadn’t observed before.  In one instance, she noticed a long str

Chimera

Now we have the Chimera, a mishmash of other creatures much like the sphinx but more primal and animalistic. No riddles are asked by these guys. Chimera, in Greek mythology, a fire-breathing female monster resembling a lionin the forepart, a goat in the middle, and a dragon behind. She devastated Caria and Lycia until she was slain by Bellerophon. It's All My Fault, Obviously.

My cat, Elsa, is having a right old whinge at me because SHE brought in a mouse, SHE let go of it and SHE lost it... so obviously it's MY fault. One of the supposed benefits of having a cat is that they keep your property free of mice. Unfortunately no one told Elsa this . I now have two mice in my house which I would not have if I didn't have a cat.
