<bleeding_heart> Posted April 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2004 ALBANY -- Someone dressed as Jesus Christ made a brief appearance Saturday in the parking lot of an Albany shopping center. According to a police dispatch report, Albany officers received a call at about 3:25 p.m. from someone complaining about a man dressed as Jesus, covered with fake blood, being scourged by another man with a rope in a 14th Avenue parking lot near Safeway and G.I. Joes. The caller said his children were upset by the display and that shopping plaza employees were trying to get "Jesus" to leave. The dressed-up man kept walking, the caller said. The dispatch report stated that police checked the area and did not locate anyone matching the description, nor did they receive any other calls. However, one officer wrote, "I am confident that (Jesus) will be back some day soon."

<bleeding_heart> Posted April 12, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted April 12, 2004 is that illegal? freedom of speech no? Not sure but I'd imagine the US has laws regarding causing a disturbance and public decency.

man_in_mudboots Posted April 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2004 it may seem crazy, but every easter my freinds do this. one of us is chosen to be 'jesus'. the others make a cross, jesus carrys it, and then they set it up and he has to hang on it. complete with hurled sticks and rocks, whipping, no drink or food, and two hours on a cross in eighty degree weather*.....and its all thru a mile of swamp! sound fun? actually, everyone wants to be jesus, eventhough he gets beaten, because the others have to throw sticks and rocks and whip their close freind or cousin, in some cases. * and yes, it is already eighty degrees down here in march. There was a program on just before Easter called 'Jesus Who?' where some guys did that - in London I think...dont know if they were beating him though. Do alot of people do that? I know there's a town in France where they choose a girl to be Joan of Arc every year and parade through the town. It's a huge honor for whoever gets picked apparently. stillcrazy Posted April 23, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 23, 2004 is that illegal? freedom of speech no? Freedom of speech only applies to public areas. Mall parking lots are considered private property for most of the US. So Jesus could have been charges with disorderly conduct. But he would have needed to be arraigned in three days or less.
