Still Waters Posted November 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2014 If modern physics is to be believed, we shouldn't be here. The meager dose of energy infusing empty space, which at higher levels would rip the cosmos apart, is a trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion trillion times tinier than theory predicts. And the minuscule mass of the Higgs boson, whose relative smallness allows big structures such as galaxies and humans to form, falls roughly 100 quadrillion times short of expectations. Dialing up either of these constants even a little would render the universe unlivable. http://www.wired.com...universe-exist/
freetoroam Posted November 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Does this mean we should start packing?
StarMountainKid Posted November 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2014 So, in a multi-verse, the number of observers depends on the values of the fundamental constants in that universe. This would mean that in some universes life is very unlikely to evolve, so that there may only be one planet where life exists in that entire universe. Conversely, in some universes the evolution of life would be very easy to occur, and life would evolve in every possible nook and cranny of that universe.
