Phantom Posted January 4, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2005 Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, whom the US occupation authorities declared to be the "target number one" in Iraq, has been arrested in the city of Baakuba, the Emirate newspaper al-Bayane reported on Tuesday referring to Kurdish sources. Al-Zarqawi, leader of the terrorist group Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad, was recently appointed the director of the Al-Qaeda organisation in Iraq. The newspaper's correspondent in Baghdad points out that a report on the seizure of the terrorist, on whom the US put a bounty of US$10 million, was also reported by Iraqi Kurdistan radio, which at one time had been the first to announce the arrest of Saddam Hussein. BurnSide Posted January 5, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2005 China Daily? This is pretty big news. Surely it would have been broadcast on CNN or something?
Stellar Posted January 5, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2005 China Daily? This is pretty big news. Surely it would have been broadcast on CNN or something? 436683[/snapback] Im thinking that if it turns out to be true, then they US is busy confirming his identity before releasing the info to the public. Didnt they do this to Saddam? Captured him a day or 2 before telling the public? Either way, we wont know if its true or not till it hits the whole media. girty1600 Posted January 5, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2005 You're right, Stellar. It was at least a couple of days before Sadam's ident. was confirmed. The US will want to make sure it's him before releasing any details. I wait with baited breath....

Sorry...it was bad I know... If they do have him(fingers crossed), I will be very happy as he more than likely knows quite a bit about what is going on in the insurgency. Hopefully they are busy with an interrogation to get as much info as they can before they confirm they have him.

girty1600 Posted January 5, 2005 #12 Share Posted January 5, 2005 I would have to say nay because it would just fuel the fire against us evil and corrupt Americans. Give him a fair trial and we will go from there.
