Anybody know what kind of bug this is?

-Shiny, metallic. gold and silver. With rainbow shine tones.

-Plays dead when disturbed, and then "comes back to life" when left alone.

-Looks like metal, and has a strong shell.

-Survived days stuck in a very cold air conditioned room.

-Friendly, doesn't mind be gently pet or handled.

-Does not bite, from what I experienced.

-Just so darn cute.

It's a beetle. Appears to be some kind of borer. It's a good match for the Golden Bupresid and an even better one for the Flatheaded Poplar Borer:

Thankfully it doesn't seem to be an Emerald Ash Borer. Looks like that but bright green. Those are invasive and highly destructive.

I suspect some type of beetle like a Helophorus. What size is it?

You could submit your images here for ID.

The bug is about 3/4" long, and about 1/4" wide.

It does indeed appear to be a Flatheaded Poplar Borer. I will submit my photos to the Bug Guide website.

Thank you for being able to identify him! I couldn't figure it out for the life of me! He is very friendly, I am a bug lover, and that cute little guy was evading me in my online searches!

It's definitely something in the genus Dicerca. Seems from the Bug Guide there's a bunch that look similar.

Good call! The identification looks right to me (NO I am not a bug person just a Cicada person)
