Star of Bethlehem a literary creation

Aaron Adair received his first taste of the Star of Bethlehem mystery when he worked as a planetarium-show presenter while an undergraduate student at Michigan State University.

A decade later, after exploring dozens of star theories dating back centuries, he's a skeptic.

The star was for Messianic prophecy.A Comet was believed as prophecy fulfillment by Judeans looking for a militant Messiah. They revolted against Rome which later led to the destruction of the Temple by 70 CE.

I beg to differ with the man. There were planetary conjunctions in 6 BC, 4BC and 2BC that offer a possible explanation. The Bible isn't precise enough to allow a guess as to which one it might have been. And then there's the possibility of a one-time comet. Too many explanations are about the same as no explanation, but there's a lot that hasn't been ruled out.

There is no evidence that anyone other than the wise men saw the star. They could have been part of a star-worshipping cult of

Zoroastrianism and systematically observed the stars for visions and dreams. That they all experienced the same vision seems to be

enough for them to begin their trek to Jerusalem. In Judea the shepherds saw angels in heaven singing, rather than a star, because

of their cultural and religious orientation. It is hopeless to explain the star by astronomical or literary methods - you either believe in

visions or dreams or you don't. Even scientists have dreams that advance their understanding of physical reality.
