The Story of God w/ Morgan Freeman

Is anyone watching this show on the National Geographic Channel? It is wonderfully done and explores all mankind's religions and beliefs from a very neutral perspective. Of course Morgan Freeman is brilliant in it but the production is superb and it is must watch TV, seriously. If you are interested in this stuff from any perspective you will enjoy this show.

Mods, if you think this should be moved to the TV section, no worries and oops in advance for the mistake

Seen every episode and it is great. I love his open-mindedness and how they discuss all religions, not just Christianity. I'm not so sure it should have the title: "The Story of God" because it does have such a broad range of topics.

All those topics, though, relate to our very human idea of a God or Gods throughout time. I love how they visit paleolithic burials, travel to India, Mexico, Peru the Vatican etc. etc. etc. really all over the world and relate the beliefs. So beautifully done though isn't it? How about the invisible princess experiment? Freakin' amazing!!!

any vids available?

It is airing now, seeder, on NatGeo channel, so probably available online through your cable/satellite provider. You'd enjoy it I am sure.

I will admit I haven't double checked all the experiments the professionals quote but will try and hopefully others will as well. Also, the neurologist that has MRI's of the brains of the serial killers thinks that 10-12 years old is when you can maybe arrest the atrophy that can happen to certain children's minds.

I did find that experiment interesting. Made me think about my conscience and how it did change when I came to believe in God. I would have totally been the kid cheating.

It's also on Hulu.

Kids, that age, cheat because, usually, they don't have the intellectual ability to not cheat. Introducing an invisible supervisor, and the subsequent change in behavior is amazing to see.

Intellectual ability to not cheat? Don't you think they were very aware of right and wrong?

If they discussed what, if anything, could be done to prevent deviant behavior; I missed it?? I heard them say it could be detected with an MRI but how would they treat that if your brain is somehow deficient?

Probably just me, but listening to Morgan Freeman for more than a few minutes, is more than I can endure.

Well you have kids and you know that some take longer to understand thing than others. I remember taking my son to eh "slide place" with all the inflatable slides and crazy kids. He was about 5 at the time. He ran down suddenly and was telling me I have to climb up the slide and rescue a little girl (maybe 3-4) that was too terrified to slide down. Crying and such when I saw her and Mom's job but no Mom around apparently.

Knowing the last thing a terrified little girl needs is a big, old, 50+ year old climbing up to her I went and got one of eh young ladies who works there to go help but in the meantime my son had run back up the slide and was comforting the little girl while the other kids were completely ignoring her. I realized empathy was built into that kid, as far as I know or maybe he learned ot from us or ....... Not one other kid tried to help that baby but maybe they saw my kid helping and left well enough alone.

Who knows. Draw your own conclusions but he was raised without religion (literally no religion) and has, seemingly, still developed a moral code. Sample size of one so....

No idea. the neurologist mentioned that the seeming cut off point was 10-12.

Thanks for posting Barb, there are so many interesting questions raised with this show that I would love to get the UM opinions on it.

I'm with Barb on this, he is perfect for this show. Respectful, knowingly ignorant and inquisitive and just a great actor. Sorry bud.

I agree, I'd love to discuss some of the topics with everyone that watches it.

Me too! Talk to your pals so we can get the same group in here.

That said, i don't know your story and have no need to but I am glad you found something that helped you get through the bad times. Also, thank you for your honesty and your willingness to share, I have my own beliefs but enjoy hearing other's ideas.

As Barb said, you have to watch sir and I don't know the stats behind the myriad studies offered (hence my happiness that you are here) but am enjoying the crazy potpourri of ideas behind our species crazy relationship with our "God(s)", whatever they may or may not be.

I reckon you are right.

Getting a copy now. Is there only 4 episodes, or is that all that have been released to date?

Just 4 so far. I am also intrigued by this religion called Zoroastrianism. I have to admit, last night's episode was the first I'd heard about it. Anyone know any juicy details that I can't stumble upon googling it?
