Not sure if this has been posted already but it caught my eye so I thought I would share it on UM.

Jonathan Weekes admits fake police officer charge

A motorist pretending to be a policeman pulled over a real officer for speeding, a court has heard.

Jonathan Weekes, 48, of Tredegar, put a blue flashing light on top of his Vauxhall Insignia as part of the ruse.

Newport Magistrates' Court heard he was shocked when he approached a car he had pulled over and saw a police officer in full uniform in the driver's seat.

Weekes was given a 12-month community order after he admitted acting falsely in suggesting he was a police officer.

The court was told the policeman said Weekes had followed him for four miles before he pulled him over in Cross Keys in September.

A genuine case of sods law I believe.

*Cough* dum-azz *Cough*

Only a year of community service for impersonating an officer? I'd say he got off pretty easy.

Uh... wannabe rapist if it was a non-officer female that was pulled-over? Just speculating.

That has happened much more than once here in the US.

I was wondering the same thing, pallidin. There has to be an ulterior motive, which couldn't have been good.

I agree. I hope this event is aggressively investigated. Likely not the first time he's done this, and, like you said, for what?

Due to several years of "fake-cop" incidences in the US, involving rape, robbery and even murder, US law provides that a motorist has now the right to continue driving(in a slow, responsible manner) to a highly lit public place, preferably with people around, such as a 24/7 gas station or such, before fully stopping.

It is also helpful(but not required) if the motorist calls 911 to express concern if they have a cell phone to make such a call.

I also recommend turning on your blinker to let them know you have every intention of pulling over in a safe place.

I should also note that the new law provides for several additional motorist protections(in the US)

- You are NOT required to immediately pull-over, be it by flashing-lights, or actual marked law-enforcement vehicle, or by their "bull-horn"

- If you "speed-away" without reasonable justification, you can be in trouble... if it's the true law officer with lawful intent.

- So, maintain designated highway speeds, use your cell phone if possible, and park into a well-lit, public area.

- It is illegal, now, for a cop to force you to pull over on a darkened street(felony pursuit excluded of course) They MUST allow you to continue to a "safe place"

It also helps if you bat your eyes innocently if they are actually the police. :innocent:

I don't know...just when I think I am probably too old for someone to want to rape, I hear of an 89 year old woman being raped. :unsure2:

There are some real nut cases out there.
