July 24 2009

VICTORIA - B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell announced Thursday his intention to combine the provincial sales tax with the federal Goods and Service Tax next year, calling it ``the single biggest thing we can do to improve B.C.'s economy.''

The proposed Harmonized Sales Tax would add the seven per cent B.C. PST with the five per cent GST for a 12-per-cent tax on most products and services effective July 1, 2010.

A statement released Thursday from both Campbell and Finance Minister Colin Hansen said the federal government would contribute $1.6 billion to help businesses ease into the transition to HST.

The B.C. government estimated that combining the two taxes into one would save businesses in the province about $2 billion, mostly through ``sales tax removed from business inputs.''

The statement said the HST would be the lowest harmonized tax in Canada. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and, as of July next year, Ontario, will have all instituted a 13-per cent HST.

*********END of Article********

Independent businesses who have made a living and who have struggled through the current recession are at threat to the announcement of a harmonized tax.

Now, under the new tax, businesses who usually were exempt from charging pst will have to charge 12% for service instead of only 5%... an increase of 7%.

This will have dire effects for people in the restaurant area, tourism, housing market(buy and sell), private contractors in all sectors and most importantly... the consumer.

The announcement came yesterday at 3pm PST and has people terribly angry and upset.... it was only 3 months ago BC residents voted in the Provincial election and during

the election process the question of harmonizing the tax was presented to all candidates.... they all said no.... including the Liberal Party who retained position as the government

of BC.

In short, our Premier Gordon Campbell, LIED to each and every person about the increase in taxes which will go directly into the Federal government's coffer.

The Canadian Federal government.. who agreed with the other 19 G-20 Nations to give the IMF 1 Trillion dollars annually at the recent April 2, 2009 G-20 Summit in London, England.

IM AS MAD AS HELL because this is the step that will extend any recovery for the economic standstill we are currently in here in Canada and globally.

This is the kind of thing that will force many to become more dependent on government help.... this is the kind of thing that will forcefully make people seek Income Assistance(welfare).

Yeah, I heard this on the radio, I still ca't believe people voted this idiot back in. One sxpert said that when this tax is implemented, that things that weren't previously taxed would be. I guess Campbell has to pay for the Olympics some way.

I'm only worried if I have to pay more.

On the bright side, this means ill only have to scan ONE side of the card on no-tax days at work.

Btw, acid, you live in victoria?

What are you, 60? 75?

InHuman, Victoria is actually not bad for seniors, but where I am, is. LOL.

And what a terrible, terrible news! I was just talking to my husband about it this morning but I don't do politics in public so I won't even go into details. But poor restaurants, they're going to have trouble the most. The finance people must be going nuts, the federal won't be needing them anymore. And OMG, this might actually make me eat fruits! LOL.

(I was just in Victoria a few hours ago).

We are merging them, but, they will be taxing items that previously weren't taxed, at least as far I understand.

Its a 7% tax hike on most everything, including services.

This means that not only does the consumer have to pay a 7% tax increase for goods but also a 7% tax increase for service purchases.

Tourism and restaurants will be impacted just as much as any business who provide a service... carpenters, electricians, accountants, real estate agents, hair stylists, you name it......

It takes effect July 2010.

Ontario and a few other provinces have declared the 'new' tax plan, all slated to begin on July 2010 as well.

Its smells fishy to me..

i smell the smell of the Canadian Federal government with its pants down to its knees at the G-20 London Summit, April 2 2009... where the g-20 nations agreed to

provide the IMF(International Monetary Fund) with an additional 500 Billion dollars annual on top of the previous agreed sum of 500 Billion dollars bring the grand total of 1 TRILLION

dollars annual.

Canada has to provide its 'share' to the international bankster cartel mafia.

This is how British Columbia will come up with its share of the money.

If you don't believe me ask yourself.. How else was Canada going to be able to raise the funds, Steven Harper-PM agreed to on April 2 2009 in London at the g-20 conference?

Btw, the American Federal government allocated 100 billion dollars to the IMF in the last War Funding Bill, passed on June 2 2009, tagging it onto the war supplemental intended for

operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq.

I believe the ongoing agenda is to vastly empower the IMF and transform the institution into a “bank of the world” with the power to print its own currency.
