So something that has been talked about for a while now has been the "time traveler" spotted using a  "cell phone" in film from the 20s.

Time Travel, although I would love to believe in it could be ruled out by an article I stumbled upon today.

It consists of a man by the name of Charles E. Alden. He claimed to have invented " The Pocket Phone: A telephone which could be carried in a pocket "

Mind Blown! lol

Research on Charles E. Alden concluded that he mysteriously vanished and of course his "pocket phone" was never released or discovered.

So, could it be him, or maybe someone who had obtained his invention that is seen in that scene in the Chaplin movie?

Just something to think about. I think this makes better sense than the theory of someone walking around with a horn used to amplify sound, as the person looks to be engaged in a conversation.

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed to be an early model of hearing aid. I'll see if I can find the original article.

How can you use a cell phone in the past, if there is no infrastructure to use the cell phone? No satellites, no cell phone antenna, no way to relay the cell phone signal to another phone.....the phone would be useless in the past....it makes no sense. It would be like taking a small flat screen TV back to the past and trying to watch TV, no optical cable, no Internet, no digital radio signals....the TV is useless, makes no sense.

First of all, he disliked filming on location and avoided it whenever he could, preferring the controlled conditions of his studio, which allowed him to insert scenes
days or weeks later and have them match the master scenes.

That was a controlled studio scene more than likely.

The footage in question is from the 1928 premier of "The Circus". Well beyond Chaplin's or the studios control. Considering this was the 20's, I'm surprised this is the only strange thing that popped up.

  • The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues. Liz Taylor

Then, of course there's this guy who claims it was him. He said he was ordering a pizza in 1985 so it would be ready when he arrived in that time.
