Still Waters Posted November 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2014 A mother and son have been left homeless after a fire started by their pet hamster. Tracey Hill had moved Pebbles into the kitchen for the night as he was making too much noise and keeping them awake. They put the restless rodent's cage on top of their electric cooker to keep him out of reach of their three dogs. http://www.telegraph...-Bletchley.html

freetoroam Posted November 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2014 No, the hamster did not start the fatal fire....the mother who placed his cage on top of the electric cooker did. Really, was there nowhere else to put him out of reach? NOTHING should be placed on the cooker at any time if it does not belong there in the 1st place. This was an electric cooker, I take it there was a water bottle on the cage, surely thats reason enough not to place it where she did. This story sickens me because 4 animals died down to a humans stupidity. Poor animals, so sad.
+HerNibs Posted November 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 6, 2014 Ok, I apologize for the poor taste in my post. It was honestly the first thing that popped into my mind. As an animal lover I do agree that it is a horrible thing for animals to die and I agree with FTR that the woman was responsible. Not the hamster. xYlvax Posted November 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2014 Why couldn't she have found any other place to put that poor hamster.. What a lack of thought on her part.
Karasu Posted November 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) Why couldn't she have found any other place to put that poor hamster.. What a lack of thought on her part. Humans generally are thoughtless animals. It's why we have wars, genocide, animal abuse, rape, child molestation, exploitation of native tribes, etc. etc. etc. Edited November 6, 2014 by Karasu
lightly Posted November 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) sad story.. but i'm glad the hamster is innocent of premeditated arson. * Edited November 7, 2014 by lightly

Redefining Success Posted November 7, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Electric cookers have a main switch on the wall to isolate it. Why was it on in the first place when the cooker wasnt being used? Presuming the cage had a plastic base, why place that on a smooth hob, if it was glass and wet, then it wouldnt of took much to move it. If the wheel was noisy, drop a little cod liver or veggie oil to lubricate it, if hammy was chewing bars, get some chew sticks and toys. Whos to say the dogs didnt turn the hob on if they are known to try and get the hamster? As above, it was the womans stupidity.
Arbenol Posted November 7, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 7, 2014 I reckon the cat was preparing a late night snack.
Auntyseptic Posted November 7, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) People like this shouldn't be allowed to ever keep pets again. Her son needs to be grateful he's survived this long with an idiot like that for a mother. Edited November 7, 2014 by Auntyseptic
:PsYKoTiC:BeHAvIoR: Posted November 7, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 7, 2014 They put the restless rodent's cage on top of their electric cooker... I can literally picture in my mind where common sense died.
