OTTAWA - Dr. HenryMorgentaler was named a member of the Order of Canada yesterday, an appointment that quickly threw fresh fuel on the abortion debate and was slammed by one of Canada's top Catholics as debasing the award.

I think it's great that he's been awarded this honour. Whether or not you believe in abortion I think everyone can agree that he at least made things safer for women that had to make the difficult choice.

I agree. To bad his mom did not have this freedom of choise. I do not mean any insult.

You must mean "fundamentalist" religious population. Religion is not against abortion. Only the wacky ones.

The man deserves the honor because he pioneered the right for women to choose whether or not they can get an abortion.

Those outraged are in the minority and while many people I know say they would not get abortions they support this freedom for others.

The only ones complaining are religious nut bars who are now an endangered species in Canada... I've seen protests by these people and there are usually very few picketing.
