PILGRIMAGE TOWN BLAST

A bomb has gone off in the north Spanish pilgrimage town of Santiago de Compostela, reports have said.

The device went off at the Parque de la Alameda in the heart of the city after a telephone warning from a caller claiming to be representing the armed separatist group Eta, state radio said.

The bomb caused little damage and no injuries were reported, a government spokeswoman said.

The town is popular with tourists and is on the northern Spanish holy trail.

The Basque group Eta warned another bomb had been planted in an hotel in La Coruna, a city close to Santiago, the report added.

The hotel was evacuated but no bomb was found.

Several small bombs have been set off in northern Spain in recent weeks following calls from people claiming to represent Eta.
