SIX KILLED IN RAID
Six Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops during a raid into the northern West Bank town of Tulkarem.
Among the dead was Hani Awidha, a local commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, an armed offshoot of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's mainstream Fatah movement.
The deaths came after Israeli special forces surrounded a house in the town, Palestinian medics said.
The Israeli military confirmed the killings, saying that the dead were all armed militants of the Al Aqsa Martyrs who had been slain in a shootout with Israeli border guards.
Shortly after the raid an Israeli F-16 fighter jet fired two missiles that destroyed a building in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighbourhood.
Two large explosions were heard in the city as the rockets struck in the area known as a militant stronghold.
The deaths bring to 4,196 the overall toll since the launch of the latest Palestinian uprising in September 2000, including 3,199 Palestinians and 926 Israelis.
