ineffectiveArtist Posted April 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2015 Hello! I need help finding information on a gravestone in Sellersburg, Indiana. The only information I have on this grave is the name and age of the girl. Her name is Sarah Ann, and she died at the young age of eleven, though if memory serves me right, she was born in the 1800s. If anybody can help me find out more about this grave I'd really appreciate it.

Lucas Cooper Merrin Posted April 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) Failing the above media i suggest contacting the church and find out what departmet keeps the archives, Im not sure about your area, but death records began in the 1600's in some places but not much is available untill after mid 1800's Tracing information on graves as old as the one you describe can be a deadend affair, but as i said above start with the local church Edited April 3, 2015 by Father Merrin
keithisco Posted April 3, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 3, 2015 More information would help: Sarah Ann are obviously given name but the family name should be there as well. It would be worth your while to try the IGI for this, but 1800's is far too woolly to really help. Date of burial , Age of death etc would help

ineffectiveArtist Posted April 3, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted April 3, 2015 Well, the grave itself only had her name as Sarah Ann. There was no last name. And this cemetery is in such a place you'd never know it existed unless someone told you exactly where it was. I don't have a way to go back there at current, so I can't really get any more specific on the dates. But I feel like it was 1870 something... The reason I need to find this, though, is I saw a young girl, in a long protestant looking dress and a bonnet standing by this grave. She had long dark hair, too. I need to find something about this child. Anything, really.

So the gal might have been of the family that owned the property. I should also note that typically such cemeteries are indeed on private property, and going to them is considered trespassing, which is illegal. Now, there are a few cemeteries in the Sellersberg area, so it would be helpful if you told us where the cemetery is or what it's name is. I'm also curious as to what a protestant looking dress is supposed to look like? Protestant is a religion, so saying a dress looks like that is kind of like saying she was wearing a Roman Catholic looking dress, or a Baptist looking dress.
