But then everyone sweeps these under the carpet .

Jean Charles de Menezes

On this particular incident, I think we ought to remember the circumstances as to why he got shot.

Yes, it was a mistake, a bloody serious one.  And it should have never happened. But please remember that on the previous day London had been attacked by a number of backpack bombs. Frankly, I was surprised there wasn't more shootings in the capital that week. There was nearly another one on the day de Menezies was killed in fact. The footage hasn't been  shown again, but another foriegn visitor near the Houses of Parliament - who had little grasp of English - had got the attention of the firearms unit, and they challenged him. As was seen, he at first hadn't realised he was being challenged by police, but thankfully got the message when the unit aimed at him.

I don't think anyone here is advocating for abuse of power by the police. And, it stands to reason that if police are involved in a shooting that Internal Affairs needs to do it's job and determine if deadly force was indeed necessary. However, these two issues (abuse of police power and armed criminal gangs) are not somehow exclusive of one another...both are problems that need resolution.

Once again, I don't see the problem with police attempting to remove guns from the hands of criminals.

Well this should make some people very happy since they've been looking forward to rising up and marching on Washington. So the citizens of California have risen up in an armed rebellion right? Police have been wiped out as citizens retake the streets and all that.

Or maybe this is just police raids to get rid of illegal weapons and due to the current gun debate people are more willing to panic.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse...A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I think both sides of this problem have all been looking a bit like your avatar recently haha

Lol, you're going on and on about police officers not deserving guns after extensive training but you seem to be in favor for anybody else to just get one. Ridiculous.

How would you know the cops who carry guns aren't qualified, with your - again- non based insinuations like you know it all - again- .

Whatever Simbi, you can't even connect the dots in your own logic. And you expect to be what? taken seriously or something?

Ohhh simbi simbi simbi, you still can't help yourself can you.
I guess things will never change.

Luckily most ppl don't swallow your bs, cuz it's just nasty how you keep going on and on.

As always ,you never change.
I was a nyc paramedic for over 15 years ,ergo ,I worked with cops and firemen ,DAILY .
I was stalked by a cop ,who later became a sergeant . I was assaulted by a fireman on a call ,and he got a slap on the wrist ,and was later promoted to lieutenant.
My uncle is a retired NYPD sergeant ,who worked in fort apache, when it was fort apache .
An episode of NY illustrated followed him on patrol ,and it also won an Emmy award.
.
Half the girls I workee with dated or married cops. I know quite a lot about them ,on many levels.
I know good ones from bad ones.

What cops do you know,or worked with daily, for 15 years ?
Do tell.

I wqs not familiar with this case . Thank you for clarifying . That being said ,why did any of the cops have guns. I thought you didn't carry them in the UK ?

How have the cops found out these guns are illegal?

Did the felons/mentally ill register their weapons when they purchased them, seems an unfelon like and sane thing to do.

I'm surprised that no one is concerned that gang members aren't being disarmed, are they not the ones who kill more and cause the most misery?

Banning guns will solve nothing. If some fruit cake wants to kill a load of kids, a homemade bomb, knife, sword, chainsaw, crossbow, bare hands, chop sticks etc... will do fine, check out mass murders at schools in China.

Generally, they don't.

SCO 19 who were called in to assist, however, do.

As long as they are all criminals ,I have no issue ,but I am dubious as to their motives in some of this ,but we knew that .

And for anyone who doesn't believe me about the shooting I witnessed ..
http://www.nytimes.c...nk-robbery.html

This was before the term PTSD was even invented.
My partner and I were messed up for weeks. And this happened within weeks of the FIRST WTC bombing, which I also went on . So if anyone wants to discuss wether or not I make this stuff up ,knock yourself out .

I still cannot discuss this call without breaking down...

No one debriefed us . I will never forget any of it .
We put her into the MAST pants, which are no longer used . We took her shoes off to do it .

Someone picked them up and put them in the front of the ambulance ,on top of my personal bag .
I had no idea.

I will never forget seeing her shoes,on my bag .....after I came back out of the ER ,and they had pronounced her dead.

There are photos of us moving her body to the ambulance ,that made the centerfold of the Daily News the next day .

And here's another OPPS !

Well I wouldnt say that.....
Cops are trained to have a very different mentality now, than say back in the 60s ,70s and 80s.
I'm not saying cops during any time frame, were angels .
Look at the story of Serpico .Lots of cops were dirty ,which is much harder to do now ,but their mentality is very different.
I find cops today are less caring . It's not protect and serve ,its do the job,go home
They're also mayor bloombergs personal money making machine when it comes to nonsense tickets etc.
They make a fortune on bogus tickets.
Stop and frisk makes a ton of money in bail .
The police are now a revenue making corporation to a degree ..in nyc anyway ...I find it sad. If you talk to cops my uncle's age ,they do not think much of today's force .
