Owlscrying Posted August 5, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2009 Fossils of 300million-year-old spiders have been brought to life with computer technology. Scientists used a CT scan to generate three dimensional images of two of the creatures, Cryptomartus hindi and Eophrynus prestivicii. Both were around the size of a 50p piece and they lived during the Carboniferous period, before the age of the dinosaurs. At the time life was still emerging from the oceans to colonise the land. Researcher Russell Garwood, from the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London, said: 'Our models almost bring these ancient creatures back to life and it's really exciting to be able to look at them in such detail. 'Our study helps build a picture of what was happening during this period early in the history of life on land. 'We think one creature could have responded to increasing predation from the amphibians by growing spikes, while the other responded by becoming an ambush predator, hiding away and only exposing itself when it had to come out to eat.' Galactic Posted August 10, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Thats very good to find owl who knows people can use that in future to see 3D on plants and more. It also something that brings bigger picture to things better to understand in good details.

Starxle Posted August 29, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) I love spiders and other things with 8 legs. Except that thing does not look as cute as modern spiders. Nice anyway and a great article. Edited August 29, 2009 by Starxle
She-ra Posted August 29, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 29, 2009 Wow great find Owl The picture sort of reminded me more of a beetle or a scarab (spelling?) than a spider... how cool!
