Fenns Treasure

I live somewhat close to where people are looking. Just read about this, anyone familiar?

New Mexico multimillionaire Forrest Fenn is excited about having you find a treasure worth millions — and apparently you are, too.

After tantalizing viewers with promises of riches on TODAY on Wednesday, traffic surged on Fenn's website as people sought to read a poem he wrote that contains nine important clues. His site crashed, so we wanted to give you the full text of the poem on TODAY.com.

Here is the poem with the nine clues from "The Thrill of the Chase," Fenn's self-published autobiography:

As I have gone alone in there

And with my treasures bold,

I can keep my secret where,

And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt

And take it in the canyon down,

Not far, but too far to walk.

Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,

The end is drawing ever nigh;

There’ll be no paddle up your creek,

Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,

Look quickly down, your quest to cease

But tarry scant with marvel gaze,

Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go

And leave my trove for all to seek?

The answers I already know

I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak

So hear me all and listen good,

Your effort will be worth the cold.

If you are brave and in the wood

I give you title to the gold.

Happy hunting!

'Expedition Unknown' with Josh Gates has an episode devoted to this. From what I saw in that episode it's not going to be easy to find this treasure.

I saw that episode too, good show! I wonder if there really is no treasure and the guy just gets a kick out of people going out and searching

I'll look for it. Been reading a lot about it. I think I might take a gander, considering I want to see this area anyway. May as well have an adventure also.

I have all ready been around Alpine, and Northern New Mexico ( moved to Arizona just over 2 years ago ). Nice areas, plus I can fish for Brown Trout at the same time. ( one of the clues )

OK so now that we have the poem lets look at what it says below the home of brown, Sierra Negra (New Mexico) witch could be translated as dark mountain but if you have a Portuges or Spanish background you are referencing a native american skin color, Negra does not always mean black but can be used to describe any dark skin such as brown.

Begin it where warm waters halt (Abiquiu Lake In new Mexico)

The next is FOUND THE BLAZE, CHAMA RIVER (New Mexico), CHAMA in Portuges translate to blaze, fire and flame.

There’ll be no paddle up your creek,

Just heavy loads and water high.

This reference is that the Chama River flows down hill no paddles needed and heavy loads and water high is white water with some drop-offs.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,

The (you"ve) lol there's a V shaped bend on the CHAMA RIVER.

If that is the case, it is long gone. The monsoons here make the rivers flood out, and wash out.

the line "Just heavy loads and water high." the box is heavy and there is line about wood meaning it could be weighed down. all the clues is about water.

  • 3 weeks later...

So what exactly is the treasure? Is it a) waterproof or well-protected, B) easily portable by a small group of determined people, and c) intrinsically valuable?

No one really knows, its stated that coins and other artifacts were included, I assume its the size 12in by 7in very transportable...
