The disappearance of Charley Ross is one of the best known mysterious disappearances in history. After Charley Ross' was invited into a carriage outside his home in Germantown, Pa., with his brother, they were taken to a store, and, when his brother was out buying stuff, the carriage went away and no one saw Charley again. His parents spent centuries interviewing boys and men who claimed to be Charley, but to no avail. In 1934, 69-year old Gustave Blair of Phoenix was declared to legally be Charley, but his story has remained under question. Anyway, Mosher and Douglas, who allegedly stole Charley, were only found out after Douglas was dead and Mosher was dying during a botched New York home robbery. I thought this was an, if true, fantastic lead in the case. I am an amateur genealogist, and am having troubles verifying much of the case, so I posted here for help. Can it be verified that Ellsworth was, in fact, Mosher's nephew? William Westervelt is known to have been Mosher's brother-in-law and was sent to prison in connection with the case, but can it be proven Martha ran a resteraunt and if it was torn down in 1880 or 1881? Is there any documentation of the skeleton and, if so, where was it buried? Thanks, J. Nieters
