UM-Bot Posted April 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2016 A peculiar structure in the Egyptian desert near Cairo has been generating a lot of speculation online. Eagle-eyed users of Google's ever-expanding satellite mapping service have identified a lot of mysterious buildings over the years and this latest discovery, which is situated in the desert to the east of Egypt's capital city Cairo, is no exception. Princess Serenity Posted April 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2016 This might end up "What On Earth?" on The Science Channel. Maybe it's a government building that the Egyptians don't want us to know?
Eldorado Posted April 9, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2016 The mystery being why has this structure not been the focus of online speculation yet.

RadFox Posted April 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2016 Looks like it probably has to do with all the road work going on in the area.
Space Commander Travis Posted April 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 9, 2016 I suppose that's high ground between it and the road, I wonder if it would be possible for anyone to get near enough to get a view of it from ground level? There doesn't seem to be anything else nearby that might give any kind of clue, and it does have the look of a military installation of some sort, though I wonder if the Egyptian military would have that kind of sophistication to construct Secret Installations in the desert. There also seem to be a lot of unfinished roads that they started but never got round to finishing, doesn't there.
Infernal Gnu Posted April 9, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 9, 2016 I think it's a facility where pharaoh Ramasses II's DNA is being spliced with alien DNA to create a super-pharaoh to take over the world.

ExoPaul Posted April 9, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 9, 2016 Here are some facts about it..... using something nobody ever thinks to use...... Microsoft Bing Maps (yep, they do exist and they are sometimes better than Google!) First.... The structures were built BEFORE any of the tarmac roads were built (because the Bing satellite photo shows them complete with NO roads anywhere nearby). They were also being constructed when there was no other structures around. So this was the first buildings to be built long before roads and other buildings on Google Maps sprung up close by. Second.... Bing Maps have "Aerial photos" taken from an aircraft as well as satellite, and the Aerial Photos show the buildings being constructed and let you see (in low resolution unfortunately) what is inside the structures and how they were built. What they are, is anyones guess, but it does seem to open up some of the mystery seeing inside the structures when they were first being built. Give Bing Maps a try and play around with it and see what you make of it.

OptimisticSkeptic Posted April 10, 2016 #19 Share Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) Almost certainly part of an air defense set up, then. The Egyptian military has certainly been supplied well by its US Ally; 220 F-16s, it has. Right on, Herr von Pickelhaube. Not surprisingly at all, the first one with the radar dome mounted on it is right next to a... military airfield! At "30.057056, 31.845227" you can see what appear to be Chinese K-8 light trainer jets. It is well known that the Chinese supply these to several middle eastern governments. Google shows 3 K-8s and a couple of planes I don't recognize. Bing shows 11 K-8s. I like how Bing birds-eye view shows the two in question while they were under construction. Put your pants back on, internet! False alarm. Edited April 10, 2016 by OptimisticSkeptic
OptimisticSkeptic Posted April 10, 2016 #20 Share Posted April 10, 2016 Here's another one on Bing.
