Barmaid with bizarre phobia of Guinness

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

A staggering 13million pints of Guinness are set to be downed during St Patrick's Day celebrations this weekend.

Almost a quarter of those will be drank in Birmingham - which has one the largest Irish populations in Britain.

But this Brummie barmaid is less than enthusiastic about the day of celebration, because she suffers a bizarre phobia of Guinness.

Hayley Blakeney, 28, is so afraid of the black stuff she becomes sweaty, breaks out in a rash and feels sick if she smells or even sees the tipple.

another ridiculous claim

this is not a phobia by any stretch. if she truly was phobic i'm sure she would find another line of work that guarantees she will never be around it never mind have to serve it

People who...... like Guinness ?

The color attracts people more. The look of it does look good I have to admit..... Its not a beer, its classed as a stout.. and it is not served warm either, well not usually ... It is usually ice cold...So many love it.. But I thought it tasted horrible.. me being Irish and all lol

Black is my favourite color.. I used to be hooked on coke cola and pepsi soft drinks.. they looked black..ice cold..I was drawn to them... Even though they are more of a dark brown color.. they looked black...LOVELY..hmmm would go for an ice cold bottle of coke now when I think of it

The color cannot put me off a drink..Never has done nad I have drank all sorts of color drinks ......The tasutte on the other hand... different story

Yeah, me too, warm beer is just...uggh. I always thought it tasted like pennies soaked in vinegar and then fermented. I know there are plenty of people across the pond that will likely hate me for that comment, but I really never understood the love of Guinness. I was really exited the first time I was about to have it because of all the people that said that you had to have Guinness in a pub to really know what the good stuff was like.

I took a drink and about spit it out, but everyone there was staring at me and were totally happy that I was trying their favorite brew, so I kind of swallowed quickly and smiled weakly and said "wow, isn't that great!" just for the sake of everyone else.

I don't drink anymore, but when I did, I usually had something like MGD or similar.

You are more polite than me ..I took a drink of it, swallowed and blurted out - What the hell was that I just drank? It tasted like something that was left in the sun for too long.. you could use that to clean drains for petes sake laugh.gif I got some looks but ohh man it was horrible... Then again even beers ..I cannot stand any one of them..I am not a beer drinker ..I prefer now and again sweeter drinks and fizzy kind..If need be alcoholic ...

It's a love it or hate it drink....Over here in Ireland a lot of older people love it..All love to get their bottle of stout...head off to the bingo halls !!

You should have stuck to the poteen (moonshine).

It has the lovely aroma of sweaty, nylon socks.

You should try it in the UK or Ireland, it's been cooled over here for many years, there are better porters and brown ales and they shouldn't be chilled it ruins the taste, i understand where you're coming from considering the taste of fizzy bland American lagers get them as cold as you can :P British and Irish crafted ales need to be savoured like good wine.

I wondered what poteen was...I had heard it mentioned a few times, figured it had something to do with sheeps stomachs.

I shall have to take your word for it. Alas, I no longer afford myself that luxury. But oh my!! When I was younger I was a beer drinker indeed!
