I'm not surprised. As the article said, people had a mania for these souvenirs, and the locals got a better lifestyle from creating and supplying them. The object in question is clearly a fake -- didn't need to unwrap or image it to see this. The hieroglyphs on the front do not make sense, for one thing, and the mask and decoration are full of things that aren't Egyptian at all.
