fadedface Posted December 24, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) I can think of several very unusual films that cut beneath the surface of ordinary existence Stalker (1979) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944/ - a russian sci-fi set in a bleak dystopian industrial landscape Santa Sangre (1989) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098253/ - I only saw it once but its a genuinely weird and sad film about a young man and his mother who both use to be circus performers. The young mans mother has no arms he becomes her arms against his will... Blue Velvet (1986) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090756/ - Great and weird film from David Lynch Alice (Neco z Alenky) (1988) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095715/ - this is the most surreal adaptation of the Lewis Carrol novel from Czechoslovakia. Taun Posted December 26, 2012 #13 Share Posted December 26, 2012 Eraserhead... so weird and bizarre that we all piled into a car and drove into town during a tornadic storm to watch a real movie, rather than keep watching it...
Urisk Posted December 26, 2012 #14 Share Posted December 26, 2012 Hmmm... Oldboy was a bit of an oddity. The live octopus scene is a bit hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck-arise... Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is certainly loopy enough that you have to watch it a couple of times to get what's going on. Very entertaining though. The Misanthropist by Ted "Nocturno Culto". Nothing uncomfortable, but incredibly strange. Angel Heart was kinda weird, and Extro was even weirder Oh god, Xtro!!! Definitely a weird film with a capital WEI!

HollyDolly Posted December 28, 2012 #20 Share Posted December 28, 2012 Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble by John Waters is strange.Though I liked Polyester with Divine and Tab Hunter. Lust in the Dust with Divine was a new take on westerns.Think Tab Hunter was also in it and so was Lainie Kazan and Ceasar Romero Involves some treasure map tattooed on Divine's butt. ReaperS_ParadoX Posted December 30, 2012 #24 Share Posted December 30, 2012 Simbi I actually own Cronos lol, but another one that desturbed me to know end was BUG with Ashley Judd, WOW is all I have to say about that one. Oh and When I saw Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer I felt dirty after it was over. I saw something and it was about the making of Henry, the director said everybody that had anything to do with the movie is definately going to hell simply because the movie is sooooo sick. Funky Poacher Posted December 30, 2012 #25 Share Posted December 30, 2012 (edited) Dead Ringers. Edit to add: Which, although mentioned, I would disagree with it being 'sick'. Just a very well-done film which makes one feel uncomfortable and question the ideas of identity and dependency. And anyone who likes Lynch's stuff should check out Guy Maddin.
