Gloomy Sunday

This one's weird.

A man named Rezsô Seress wrote this song. Supposedly it's linked to a lot of suicides.

I'm just wondering,

Has any of this (people's deaths being connected with the song) ever been proven?

Could it be possible that the song is so depressing that people already in danger of killing themselves might be motivated, pushed, whatever, by it?

Are there really places where it is banned?

What are your thoughts on this?

In case you’re curious, here are the lyrics to Gloomy Sunday:

It was banned in some countries and it even had to have another part added to it to make it less sad. crying.gif

I've only heard the Bejork version.

Gday guys,

Well this is my first official post and what better subject than the famouse song Gloomy Sunday. Well there is alot of information on the web if you just type in "Gloomy Sunday" in Google. I believe the best version ( even though it is the extended 3 stanza version instead of the 2 stanza original) is Ella Fitzgeralds rendition of it.

Well best be off

Cheers

i want to hear this song...

If you do a search you will find Sarah McLauchlan's version. It is simply awesome and she does the best rendition of the song I have ever heard. I highly suggest

finding this version. thumbsup.gif

  • 3 weeks later...

I have heard this song and it certainly didn't make me want to commit suicide. I think that a person must be deeply troubled and on the verge of ending his/her life to begin with, if this song 'tips the balance over the edge.'

It is banned from being played on British radio stations because of this.

Love, Patsy.
