whoa182 Posted August 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2005 (edited) We are moving at a fast pace in robotics now and theres been many predictions about when will we see the types of robots like in the movie A.I or something. Well check out this robot that is being tested. It's not intelligent but it has some remarkable ability that used to be quite hard to achieve in robotics. Watch this video! http://www.isi.imi.i.u-tokyo.ac.jp/project.../success_v2.mpg Heres the article on it http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7875 There was also some predictions that by 2050 a robotic team will beat a human team at football. I think it will happen by atleast 2020 or in that decade. Edited August 19, 2005 by whoa182
Nirwana Posted August 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2005 It would be cool to see it do something more but yeah it's already a great achievement, probably 5 or 10 years from now robots will be able to run just like we do without falling. Thanato Posted August 20, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2005 I want one. But if we ever made AI, we should treat it like a scentiant being, and as a different species. ~Thanato

Blazea58 Posted August 20, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2005 I have always been interested with what technology has been doing for us, and in terms of robots they are very sophisticated. There are already some pretty crazy robots that have been built. Even Honda the car dealership has one they call the Asimo, here is a video showing it avoid obsticals on its own. http://world.honda.com/HDTV/ASIMO/200412-announce/ And for AI we have a new helicopter which can see and think on its own. http://abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s1012534.htm another honda robot video http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~iba/misc/p3/ another interesting robot made by sony, picture and info. http://www.inel.gov/adaptiverobotics/humanoidrobotics/ Another interesting robot with pictures and a large video. http://www.etek.chalmers.se/~almir/ This link here has a really cool video of 4 small robots on a table dancing to 2 different songs, and in the second one they move really fast, its pretty cool http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn4845 Just scroll till you see where it says Footage and click there. Another really good video of a robot that seems to have alot of movements when it comes to standing up. Look at the bottom video, its pretty amazing. http://www.kawada.co.jp/global/ams/hrp_2.html And the new killing machine Karatee Robots. http://tonytalkstech.com/2003/10/14/martial-arts-robots/ http://www.eagletv.co.uk/home/videos/robo.mov If anyone else has some more interesting vids post them up. It's amazing how well these robots are able to move now, it really can't be that far off untl most people have robots in their homes helping with daily tasks

Also spend more time actually living rather than working? Edited August 21, 2005 by whoa182
thefounder Posted August 22, 2005 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2005 I still don't think it is agile and flexible enough.. However, as the years go on robots will become better and eventually they will have adequet AI which can allow them to work efficiently (i hope).
