Donnie Darko Posted January 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Scary. Well atleast they can start preparing now. Hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds. I keep picturing "The Day After Tommorrow" with the way the article describes it.
dazdillinjah Posted January 19, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2011 TY for the link ...very interesting am now trying to find info on the previous superstorm mentioned in the report
ships-cat Posted January 19, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Hrmph. this is not a report on an ACTUAL building storm. It is a vague prediction that such a storm could exist in the future, based on - amongst other things - climate change and modelling computers. In particular, their prediction requires that the atmosphere temperature rises considerably. We shall see. meow purr
Donnie Darko Posted January 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Why are you meowing? They say it could happen this winter. I hope it doesn't. God help us if it does.
farandaway Posted January 19, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Poor Cali, I've lived here most of my life (Born and raised in So Cali and lived in No. Cali since 2003) and it's always something. I grew up with earthquakes, which still scare the stuffings out of me, fires--every summer, everywhere, and yes it very definitely pours in Southern California. In Northern Cali, we have rain with really intense winds, and we're surrounded by rivers, that flood periodically (Sacramento and American Rivers). Scientists are always warning us about something, so whatever happens, happens. It seems to me that no matter where you live it's always something. You can't stop nature! Blue Box Posted January 19, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I hope it doesn't happen there either I have family in S. Cali although they want to move back as soon as they can. My mom just went out to visit them as well for a few weeks and here I thought her biggest worry would be from TSA ( j/k). I've also been hearing about the floods they were having a month or so ago it does not sound like fun at all. Luckily it didn't effect the area in which my family lives in. Donnie Darko Posted January 19, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 19, 2011 I'm lucky I guess. I live in central Texas and nothing ever happens here, we don't even get tornadoes. The worst would be heavy rains from Hurricanes but it doesn't flood. Again, hopefully it isn't as bad as they're making it out to be.
Soul Kitchen Posted January 20, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2011 This isn't looking good for my Brothers and Sisters over in Cali - http://uk.news.yahoo.com/38/20110118/tsc-scientists-warn-of-superstorm-headin-98fda55.html (Apologies if this has already been posted. Right when it was about to kill the whole world, Michael Jackson died, and thus the flu ceased to worth attention!
UFO_Monster Posted January 20, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 20, 2011 "California, I'm fine. Somebody check my brain. California's all right--somebody check my brain." Check my brain. Okay, sorry for the Alice In Chains reference. I'd hate to be there right now.

Okay, sorry for the Alice In Chains reference. I'd hate to be there right now. Great song!!! Yet I would only want to allow this "superstorm" if it gets rid of Pelosi. I have seen things that go bump in the night ... yet I am only afraid of her!!!

Karlis Posted January 24, 2011 #15 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Mega Storm Could Hit Calif., Scientists Warn. The study -- which took two years to complete -- noted that while quakes radiate from a single location, a huge storm could affect the entire state, destroy one in four homes and result in an economic loss four times that of a huge earthquake. Such a storm would take place once every 100 to 200 years. The authors of the study said they were not suggesting that a storm of that magnitude was imminent. However, they wanted Californians to be aware that the risk existed. Link
stuntboy92 Posted February 1, 2011 #16 Share Posted February 1, 2011 surprisingly I'm not scared after the rain that we've already experienced doesn't scare me one bit
Amberlight Posted February 1, 2011 #17 Share Posted February 1, 2011 Scientists cannot call this superstorm "The Big One" because Californians already have a major disaster predicted to come from the San Andreas fault we already call "The Big One." Maybe they did that because it would be funny to say that California has "Two Big Ones."
Delovely5150 Posted February 1, 2011 #18 Share Posted February 1, 2011 That IS scary. Hopefully it doesn't happen. We have more than enough chaos and calamities in the world already.

theGhost_and_theDarkness Posted February 16, 2011 #21 Share Posted February 16, 2011 The only thing I can think of is the song Aenema by Tool. The lyrics fit so perfect. . . "Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay." I think Maynard is psychic!
