UFO Religions

Dear UM Posters,

I am a member of a UFO religion, and have found that there is great reluctance to accept the claims of members of UFO-based religions in general. I have some questions I would like to discuss:

(1) Is anyone else here a member of an ET-based religion?

(2) What is your general opinion of ET-based religions and why?

(3) Why do you think ET-based religions face more misunderstanding than traditional religions (if you do)?

(4) Any other discussion related to ET-based religions?

I look forward to a good conversation.

Hello universalchokurei,

I've always regarded religion as belief in a higher power, where as belief in ET is little more then belief in Extraterresrial life having visited us - unless of course you believe ET has a direct influence on man, i.e we're here because of them - in which case I guess you could class that as a higher power.

1) No. I have many interests when it comes to these subjects, but no beliefs.

2) My general opinion is that they are misguided, based on the flimsiest of 'evidence', and generally followed by those who's will to believe has over ridden any sense of credible data gathering to provide something tangible for everyone else to look at and judge for themselves. Now I'm not dismissing all ufo reports, and I'm certainly not saying we have never been visited, it would be arrogant to say such a thing without having personnally witnessed and examined every single ufo report in minute detail, which would be impossible. All I know is this, if evidence of such a thing was proven to me, the last thing I would do is start a religion based on it, that only reduces it's credibility.

So that leaves me seriously questioning the sanity, and sincerity of anyone that does.

3) Evidence, blatent lying, hoaxes, money making schemes - all of these have been shown time and time again with people involved in this subject. That said, I guess you could apply that to religion in general, but religion seems to get a different ride to this, mainly due to it's fall back status of peoples right to hold beliefs in any God they wish, a right that has to be respected. The subject of ufo's will never fall into that category, the plus side though is when evidence is found (and I suspect one day it will be)....it will leap frog straight from belief to fact immediately. It won't make the religious beliefs attached necessarily true, but that will depend on what evidence is found. Religion (imo) will never benefit from such a thing, as I don't believe any evidence to prove the faith correct either exists or will ever come.

4) What's your take on it, beliefs etc?

I'm not familiar with many ET based religions. But the few I've had in my neighborhood have been wacky wacky wacky.

So I haven't had experience with sane ET-based religious people yet. What does your religion profess?

Moreover, if one believes that Aliens exist, doesn't mean they will worship the aliens. I think that aliens exist, whether from outer space or from some sort of inner space. They could be the Nephilim, or another demonic hybrid, or they could be humans from the future...there are so many options. How would one create a religion based on alien life? From what I've read, there are many different types of aliens with different purposes to visit here. Jesus himself was a hybrid and thus he technically speaking is an alien...

The author of The Bible Code, who is an athiest, Michael Drosnin (ISBN 9780684849737), self reports that he believes the Bible Codes are real but that they are sent by intelligent life but not by God--such as aliens from the future who through a master computer program embed these codes for our benefit or something like that. (It's been years since I read that book)

This opened my eyes to other types of thinking about extra terrestrials. Such as people who think that Adam and Eve were either aliens who came to earth or created by aliens...

Anyhow, that is all I have on this topic. I'll be interested to hear about your religion.

Keven
