A home near Victoria had to be demolished after an oil company got its addresses mixed up and delivered a load of furnace oil to the wrong house.

Don't they double check the addresses?  That is one expensive mistake!

Congratulations to the home owner though, now the Insurance company will be building him the home of his dreams - brand spanking new no renovation required. Every cloud has a silver lining so they say.

"I warn you, whoever you are, oh you who wish to probe the arcanes of nature, if you do not find within yourself that which you seek, neither shall you find it outside.
If you ignore the excellencies of your own house, how do you intend to find other excellencies?
In you is hidden the treasure of treasures, Oh man, know thyself and you shall know the Universe and the Gods."

You think so?
I reckon the insurance company will weasel out of paying a cent by saying "ohh you accepted delivery without double checking it was what you ordered, its you're fault, we can't be held responsible for your decisions".

I must not fear. Fear is the Mind-Killer. It is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and to move through me. And when it is gone I will turn the inner eye to see it's path.
When the fear is gone, there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

I'm thinking he never signed for anything given the insurance co. is paying the cleanup and new house bill (according to the article).  Many of these type of deliveries are done regardless whether home owners are available to sign for it or not.

You are not always home when companies deliver here in Canada, they bill you later.  So, yeah, the guy wouldn't even know until the stuff was pumping out into the ground.  And how the driver didn't smell it really makes me wonder.....

I wonder if the driver has unemployment benefits that will cover him for a tragic mistake?

no employment insurance benefits if you are fired unless you can prove you were fired unuystly.  I dont think that will apply here.
